What's Your Screen Resolution?

I'm just wondering what the common - or at least average - screen resolution is for when I make my game.
I don't want to seem like I'm catering to anyone in particular, I'm just curious as to what would be more applicable to anyone looking to play it. I probably wouldn't have made it widescreen by default but if that is not true for the majority of who I'm looking to draw in, I can change that.

So if you'd let me know if you have a widescreen monitor, or no, that would be excellent. :3

Simple, use a dynamic screen size and render appropriately.
Have the code get the screen size of the plattform it runs on and then have it display on that minus border for window mode.
Or you can have it go into fullscreen mode outright, then you would also have more direct access to the graphic components and improve your runtime reaction.
If you use sprites, this should not yield any problems. (just make sure only sprites that are used are shown.)
If you use polygons, you need to write a class that converts the screen ratio from the getScreenSize method to the viewpoint ratio, otherwise you get distortions or blank screen.

I'm just going to be fiddling about in Flash, I'm not an expert.

well, then I suggest you don't make it too big, since you might want to share it on websites that allow user to upload flash games and some of them only let the game be played in small screens.

Otherwise I suggest you to ask somebody who made the one or other good flash game.

Yes. I'll probably make it 800x600 or possibly smaller.

Side by side 1920x1080.  If I had more deskspace there would be 3 of them like I have at work.

People have so many monitors! XD
Be satisfied with just the one, will you? :P

Thanks by the way.

*chuckles*  I've been in IT since 1988 and am a sysadmin.  Even at home I am generally working on multiple systems at once so a single monitor really kills me.  (Especially when I am remoted into work on one monitor and playing a game or looking at IB on the other.)

1280x1024 *shrugs* I feel out of fashion in this widescreen century.
