Do you belong to any certain branch of Paganism, or does the broad explanation of Wicca suit you better?

Melanie replies, "My family follows a Celtic form of Wicca, which has some roots in Celtic Druidic practices as well. That's why our Rowan Coven - the Wiccan group that my family belongs to - and the Oaken Trefoil Druid grove get along so well. We share a lot of traditions, and have a similar outlook."

"Both Wicca and Druidism as practiced by most people in the modern era are modern reconstructions of older traditional belief systems. It's very hard to find a true "Family Tradition" grove or coven that really can trace the history of their rites and practices back more than three or four generations. But the fact that many modern covens and groves have adapted their rituals and practices from material borrowed from other beliefs, or created them anew in the spirit of other rituals, does not negate the underlying truths that support our faith. Just look at how many times the Bible has been edited and revised, or at the changes of the Protestant Reformation in Christianity. All rites and rituals are merely a means to an end, a way of focusing our hearts and minds on our spiritual selves and on the powers and energies inherent in nature and the world around us, and granted by our Creators."

( OOC : The author has also studied and participated in both Celtic Wicca and Celtic Druidism. )

Excellent, thank you for answering my question! Would the author happen to have any sources for someone looking to pursue more knowledge and perhaps start a coven?

Are Karl and Hans the husband, father, son or brother either of you expected, or have they exceeded your expectations?

I've heard of two other men named Karl von Bernerholdt and Hans von Bernerholdt.  They are strangely similar to the Karl and Hans you both know and love already.  I have a feeling that both of you would love to meet them someday, as they would both of you.

Melanie replies first, saying, "I'm very pleased with Karl so far. He's honest and caring, and quite the gentleman. He's still a little conservative an uptight about some things, but he's willing to try to broaden his viewpoint and try new things, even when they make him extremely uncomfortable. I think he will loosen up eventually and become everything I could hope for in a lover, a husband, and a father for my daughter. There is absolutely no comparison between him and any other man I've ever dated. He's definitely exceeded my wildest hopes and dreams from what I dared to hope for on our first date."

"Hans is a real cutie, and he's been good for Ryan. I don't think I could ask for a better son. His sexual precociousness caught me off guard though. On the night that he and Ryan met, I definitely didn't expect him to end up having sex with Ryan! But it certainly seems to have worked out well for both of them. Wouldn't you agree dear?" Melanie says, directing the last comment to Ryan.

Ryan nods and says, "I wasn't at all sure what to expect from Mister Bernerholdt and his son. I knew how badly mommy had been hurt by other guys, but she really seemed happy with Mister Bernerholdt so far. I was kinda hoping that he would end up marrying mom, and so I guess part of me was expecting Hans would end up being my step brother eventually. I just hoped he wouldn't be as much of a jerk as some of the boys I knew at school."

"When I caught Hans in the bathroom wearing a pair of panties that looked like they were mine, I almost freaked. Mom would be SO pissed if her boyfriend's son was some sort of perverted thief! But when he explained himself and I calmed down, I had to admit that him wearing girl's undies under his boy clothes was no different than me wearing boy clothes over my girly undies. And then the way the rest of the night went... well, Hans didn't try to force anything on me. He answered my questions and we did some naughty things, but every time I wanted to take it a step further, he gave me a chance to stop it right there. That impressed me, and what he did with me in bed felt really, really good! So when mom caught us, I thought it was gonna be awful. I was sure she was gonna blow up and throw Hans and his dad out on their butts, and I pleaded with mom that Hans was only doing what I wanted him to do, and that I was the only one that should get blamed."

"Well, you know what happened after that. Since that day, Hans has been the most incredible lover. While we've both experimented a little with others, he's been very devoted to me, and I couldn't imagine a better boyfriend. I don't really think of him as my brother at all, though I guess he kinda will be once mom and dad get married."

"Daddy's been great! Mom loves him and he loves mom. He's been the best thing ever for her. And he really seems to want to be a good daddy for me, too. I love him bunches and bunches."

When Ryan runs out of steam, Melanie replies to the comment about the 'Von Bernerholdts'.

"Karl hasn't mentioned those other guys. are they foreign cousins, or what? The only people I ever heard of with 'von' in their name were rich guys from Europe. I guess it would be a little weird to meet someone with a very similar name to my lover, especially if that guy also had a son named Hans. If it ever happened, I'm not sure what I would do."

I don't think they are cousins, but yes, they are rich folks from Switzerland.  The von Bernerholdts I know live completely different lives than the Karl and Hans you know.  They are both a bit older; Karl being in his early 50s and separated, while Hans is twelve.  Hans has a full-blooded sister and five half-sisters (that I know of).  They are also both full-blooded Bernese; they can trace their lineage back 16 generations.
They are polyamorous and bisexual, very much gentlemen, always put their ladies' needs before their own.
Although I'm fairly certain that Karl von Bernerholdt wouldn't actively pursue a relationship with Melanie, I know that Hans von Bernerholdt would certainly take both of you out on a date - either together or one at a time.

//That was surprisingly difficult to describe them!

How was life like before meeting Karl and Hans? Also, sorry if I'm a bit late...

Well, I became a single mom when I was only 12, so high school dating was pretty miserable, and college wasn't much better. Most guys bailed out when they found out I had a kid. My parents cared for Ryan while I was away at college, and that helped a bit. In my last year of college I thought I had a nice boyfriend, and I had been planning on having him come home with me over the holidays to meet my parents, and more importantly, to meet Ryan. But the guy dumped me just days before the holiday break was to start. I was so depressed that I didn't even go home for the holidays. My friend Mossflower comforted me, allowed me to move in with her, and she put me back together again emotionally. For almost 4 months we remained lesbian lovers. Our relationship was more satisfying than what I had found with most of the guys I had dated, but I eventually realized that I needed a male sex partner more than I needed a female one. So I moved back out of Mossy's apartment, and tried dating guys again. But nothing clicked. The few guys I went on a date with never got my trust enough to do more than kiss and cuddle. Most still weren't interested in dating a single mom. I still got most of my physical affection from Mossy, though Dianna had moved in with her by then, and become her new lover.

I graduated from college last June with a fairly useless BA degree in Theater Arts. Figured I would try my hand with local theater groups to get some experience, until Ryan was older and I felt it was safe for us to move someplace where my acting training might get me a better job. So I moved back to my home town and my parents and I moved into both sides of a duplex that they bought, so I could raise Ryan and have them next door to babysit when I was working. I got the job I have now, as a waitress in a restaurant, and tried to focus on just being a good mom for Ryan. I didn't date much that Summer, and spent most of my free time with Ryan.

Last September I met Karl, as a customer at the restaurant. He was polite and friendly, and like a lot of my male customers he chatted me up when he placed his order, and flirted a bit as I brought his lunch and refilled his coffee. It was getting kind of slow, so I hung out around his table and we talked while I watched my other tables. He told me right up front that he was divorced, and had a son, and proudly showed me Hans' picture. He had three different ones in his wallet, which is kind of rare for a single parent guy. He took me to his home for dinner that night, and he cooked the meal himself! I stayed the night, and we've been together quite happily ever since then.
