Thoughts on watermarks and stuff?

by
Hi guys!
I keep seeing my stuff pop up all over the place, and I frequently have friends saying 'hey I saw that thing you did up over on -insert seedy website-' and all that, and idk it's really starting to bother me alot. I know I've bought this upon myself by not watermarking and giving appropriate warnings on my work, but it really tends to clunk things up alot and I don't want to seem overbearing with 'DONT POST THIS ANYWHERE ELSE RGGHHH' cause it probably wont work anyway and eghhh, it's really bad cause I don't want this account to kinda smear over the image of my accounts elsewhere like 'OH LOOK SHE DRAWS FURRY PORn' maybe im worrying too much but I just wish people would ask before they shove something that is someone else's somewhere it isnt supposed to beee

Personally I hate watermarks, I don't mind on the edges of work but stuff right through the middle looks horrible.

But you are not going to stop people re posting your work simply saying do not share. Even watermarks don't stop re-posting.

If you don't want people to link you to other accounts because of pr0nz, you might simply have to stop making it. People are smart and can spot artists styles a mile away.

Yeah you're right.
I guess it's totally unavoidable so I'm just gonna have to work with whats there and just be a little more careful.

I personally don't think my work being posted somewhere else is truly a bad thing, unless they edit it and try to pass it as their own. As long as they are posting it and linking back to the original artist, it's all publicity, which brings customers which makes money. So posting it and linking back to the artist is good, but claiming it as their own is bad.

I'd say put your name/logo on all your pics and ask for them not to be altered in any way shape or form. But that's just me :3

Nyowa, all I can say is that your stuff is popular because you're a talented artist. Your art is getting recognition, whether a good or bad response, which means your fame is spreading.
You're gonna get haters and you're gonna get stalkers and obsessive people.
To be honest, watermarking your stuff won't change anything because like Kinshuka said, your pics will be altered. I've spotted a few of mine to be altered and I wasn't happy, but I had people back me up. Just continue doing what you love and sign and date your things.
Just remember to keep being a badass and not give a shit about what some losers say ;)

This is kind of an alien problem to me.  I already sign most of my work.  But I give people permission to repost it elsewhere as a kind of the default state for most of the work in my IB gallery.  I only ask that they let people know where they got it, and to not repost things I explicitly tell them not to.  Commissons may only be reposted with mine or the client's permission.

I see stuff all the time on other sites with the "Do not Redistribute" tag on it.  They could just edit it out, but most people don't even seem to care.  I would recommend tagging it, though, because having some people who won't toss your work around without permission is at least better than having almost no one who will do so.  Just make it legible, but not too intrusive, so it doesn't interfere with your art.  It's possible to put the tag on in such a way that it's hard to remove without making it obvious that it's been edited.

When in the world of freely observable content, there's always going to be some people who will do stuff with your content that you won't like.  But there are also people who will honor your requests, and that little tag can help them know to do so.

if you wanna start watermarking your work then by all means do!! even if people don't stop reposting your art at least there'll be a source and people will know that it doesnt belong to that person and that it belongs to you uwu

Yeah, watermark that shit. I'd try not to be too obnoxious with them like deviantart watermarks, rather put an url somewhere in a corner where it's not ridiculously in the way, but where you can't just simply crop it out without taking a bite out of the picture. (Like over a character's leg, or something, idk.)

I dunno if a watermark would do anything to be honest, i seen someone post a picture of silver once on fchan, which the whole background was made of text saying do not post anywhere else. but they posted it xD and it didn't get removed untill the thread was gone. so people will still post regardless. but if it makes you feel safer than by all means do it, though i do tend to find watermarks spoil the picture.

as long as people arn't copying your work or saying it's theirs then i don't see a problem. if there is people you don't want to find out then posting it online anywhere probably isn't a good idea.

People post my works everywhere too but i'm actualy glad they do reposting art always leads to more people knowing about you. if they know about you from pron? so what? at least they know you draw the best goddamn pron!

It all depends on your intent. I see my photos on other websites all the time. It doesn't bother me, but then again, it isn't a financial proposition with me- I got my day job. If you are SERIOUS, then yes, go with the big ugly ones. You just have to do them all, because the first time you post without, it will be all over.
For me, I enjoy seeing my work- it's nice that someone thought it good enough to steal! Still, it's YOUR work, and YOUR call.
BTW, It IS very nice work!

I've never had many issues with my art being reposted against my will myself since, so I typically restrict my watermarking to just a signature in the corner, but if it really bothers you, most art reposting sites like paheal and the boorus and the like tend to have a Do Not Post list, so you could add yourself to that and then just flag any of your art for deletion there when it pops up.

idk personally I've never been bothered too much by having my nsfw art reposted since I've seen a couple pics pop up on paheal and the like, and I really havent had anyone worthwhile actually give a shit about it, and its actually gotten me more attention on my other accounts lmao.

(Of course I'm also COMICALLY OPEN about grose shit like this with my friends too so I guess not everyone has my complete lack of tact in regards to sexual materials lmao)

but even if youre worried about it somehow catching up with you in the professional world, from what I've heard from friends in the industry most employers dont give a shit and theres a solid chunk of illustrators who draw fandom related porn themselves, even for series they're drawing for, so its really not much to stress about if thats whats bugging you

hopefully this isnt coming off too much like I'm trying to tell you what to think, I literally got out of bed half an hour ago so Im not exactly the most eloquent of nekos atm ehue

I always tag my pics cause I encourage people to repost them anywhere they please. I don't watermark it, I just add my logo to the corner. One time I found one of my pics with the tag cropped out, I contacted admins and they removed the pic.
