I still think my best find was a copy of Final Fantasy 6 in the original box with the manual and what-not :3 I think I paid 1300 yen for it.

No matter the era! Still lotsa places with original Famicom games. Heck, I found a copy of The Neverhood at a used stuff store in Aomori city!

At 105 yen, it might as well had been free XD That's less than a drink out of a vending machine!

Now she just needs to brush up on her Japanese so she can read it herself. :)

There's actually very little Japanese, save for the instruction blocks~ Even then, it's in pretty simple terms, and all in kana.

I think I told you in a PM how I spent like, 30-60 minutes trying to read the file select screen and intro text box of Super Mario World and still couldn't make sense of it all.  There was that one Katakana character on the file select screen I just couldn't make out given the font, and it took forever trying to look up every word to figure out what it was saying.  Though I think the text in SMW2 is larger and probably easier to make out.

Speaking of Final Fantasy VI (which you mentioned above), my original plan before my failed SMW experiment was to try to self-translate the Japanese Final Fantasy VI.  But when I spent nearly an hour on the first two screens of SMW, I gave up on the idea.  I simply don't know enough. :o

Is it a bad thing...

...That I'm into neither anime nor videogames....

....That I can read the kana cold? ;)

Hee hee... only after getting past the funky font. ^^ The package it was in actually had a decent mount of stickers covering the text. I pretty much recognized it from the artwork first, then pieced it together from the two or so kana I could see through the labels.

Big yoshis Island fan here! I hope YI 3DS is any good after YI DS left me feeling very unsatisfied.

I heard YI DS was farmed out to some mediocre Japanese compeny.....that would explain it.
