Comics?

I love comics.

Comics in a lot a ways is what got me interested drawing in the first place. At first it was just newspaper funnies, and then I migrated to marvel super hero comics. Just when I got fed up with majority of American comics (blame the 90's area for that), I discover Japanese manga, only to kinda come full circle to start reading web comics taken over newspaper with a lot more variety and freshier material. So in one form or another I have always been reading comics.

So it should come to no surprise that often think about wanted to draw my own comics, in fact its been a dream of mind since I was kid. The problem comics are very hard to make. I've tried several times before with some attempts more successful than others. The biggest challenge is comics take a lot more time and dedication than my usual artwork.

Since I most viewership here on Inkbunny, I thought I get some your input and thoughts.

A few questions.

Would you like to see me make comics? Or would should I just stick just drawing illustrations?

Would you prefer comics to be fur related? Or would enjoy an anime styled comic just as much?

Do mind black and white comics? Or do you only read color ones?

Do do like news paper styled (3-4) panel gag comics? Or do prefer full page comics with more story and plot progression?

Do you have a favorite genre?

What maturity level would like to see from a comic from me? (Adult/porn comics I think would very niche, and hard to gain broad readership)

I had several ideas that I've stored back of my head over the years, so working on something that I've come up with would be a lot more motivating. However I think collaborations are great as well and can ease work load burden some. Thoughts?

you drawing comics would be an interesting thing to see... The Misadventures of Estrid would be nice to toss out there.  to me, any level of maturity will do; color plz, if not greyscale, content can vary, as can your panel count.  the rest will come naturally IMO

Estrid comics would be tempting but I not sure if I have ideas for comic that would feature her.

well, you can always start with how she deals with her sexual frustration.  a solo session to entice the watchers will not be turned away

I actually like Kemosabe's idea for Estrid related comics: Fan suggestions. At the very least that'd keep a bunch of new ideas popping up.

On to your questions:

Would you like to see me make comics? Or would should I just stick just drawing illustrations?
Well, I do enjoy your art and think that the characters you have come up with. With or without said characters, I think you'd make a pretty decent comic.

Would you prefer comics to be fur related? Or would enjoy an anime styled comic just as much?
I could go either way, though at least with fur related ones you could post them on inkbunny, if they go mature.

Do mind black and white comics? Or do you only read color ones?
I'm good with either, though I do enjoy black and white ones more. Colored comics kinda feel more like a special thing, like once a week or for special occasions.

Do do like news paper styled (3-4) panel gag comics? Or do prefer full page comics with more story and plot progression?
Well, I suppose I prefer story over comedy, though an entirely story driven comic seems to come out slower (based on past comic reading experience). I would suggest newspaper style, and if you come up with a storyline driven comic that needs more space, using more space as needed.

Do you have a favorite genre?
Not in particular, so can't really give good feedback on that.

What maturity level would like to see from a comic from me? (Adult/porn comics I think would very niche, and hard to gain broad readership)
While I would like to see a more mature themed comic along the lines of adult/porn, I have to say that creating a comic with a broader audience in mind is a better idea.  It would appeal to more people, and generate a larger fan base, which is the main point of a comic I feel. That said, you can always make an adult themed spinoff of a broad audience comic featuring characters from the main comic in situations that may or may not be canon with the main comic.

I had several ideas that I've stored back of my head over the years, so working on something that I've come up with would be a lot more motivating. However I think collaborations are great as well and can ease work load burden some. Thoughts?
I say put out pilot comics of things you've already thought up to see how people respond to it.

Edit: Oh, and if you work on ideas you've come up with yourself, you could probably still find people that would like to collaborate, or even do collaborations as an occasional thing.

I think making a series that holds both none mature and mature aspects would be great, like peter is the wolf web comic. Both great in story and sex when it pops up.

I prefer Web Comics these days myself though.
RisingDragon

Not a bad idea, and one I'll strongly consider. Yea I think almost exclusively read only webcomics now a days.

Oh goodness thats a toughy. Well me i like all kinds of comics, even those in black and white. And i must agree with KeeperSeen that a good comic like peter is the wolf has sex pop up sometimes and has a great story. That's not to say fan service is never a bad idea either hehe.

Yes.

I don't really mind either way.

don't care either way, b&w is fine, colored could be something you hold out for if you sell digital or physical copies at a later date.

Whatever you want to make.  If you want to make comedy, the 4-panels may be better.  If you want to make a progressive story, full pages may be better.

Genre?  Hmmm... Period pieces, definitely.  Westerns, Turn-of-the-Century Western-Mystery(think the era of bowler hats and 3-piece suits, but the old cowboys are still alive and struggling to find a place in the new world), Near-Future Sci-Fi, Martial Arts(realistic, not the cartoonish stuff you see in DBZ and Fist of the North Star), ummmm.... NOT superhero.

I would suggest you try to keep it pg-13, but when STORY-APPROPRIATE, let sex happen.  Perhaps do what Rukis does and save the adult pages for the paying customers(but keep them low so that the non-payers don't feel like they're getting short-changed), OR you could do what Bar-1 Scorpio does with Peter is the Wolf and release a Clean page to go along with the Dirty pages, so that you have the option of Full Comic for regular viewers or Full Comic+pronz for the people who want it.

I'd be willing to collab on anything with you, man.  Just shoot shit offa me and we can see what sticks. :D  Or there are other people WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than me that i'm sure would collab.

Good suggestion on holding out colored for a possible paid print version. Also agree 4 panel comics, lend themself to gag strips very well, they would be easier to draw as well, so I'm leaning that direction. However I do have several story ideas that would have to be done as full page comics in order to do them justice.

Thanks for offer as well, I might for a post soon looking for collaborators soon, but I'll consider tossing some ideas your way as well.

Remember, payed doesn't always mean physical copies.  You could have a payed site, or digital distribution.  :)

And i look forward to either thing!

I started reading comics really early and like you I went in the 90's from Marvel Comics (especial X-Men I so much loved their comics) over mangas to web comics / web mangas. I like different comic styles manga, american comic style or even the more realistic comic style. For furry comics I really like Lackadaisy, Blacksad and for sure most comics all the furry artist draw.It doesn´t matter wheter the comics are black and white or colored I read both kind. I read comics and mangas with action, love, romantic, sci-fi, fantasy, porn....
I think you could draw romantic comics (with m/f, f/f, m/m or for sure love triangle pairings) or fantasy related comics. But there are much more possibilities.
RisingDragon

I love Blacksad, well at least the two books that I manage to get.

I also agree, I think romantic comedy and fantasy might be my best for my style.

I got all four books of Blacksad. Lucky I have a comic store that has all 4 of them. I hope they will make more of Blacksad.

I would love to see you draw comics. You have a great style that would work great for comics.

Of course, my opinion on this will always be biased since I like furry related stuff.

Anime is a great style... but it's also one that has been copied and imitated by so many in so many ways there is very little space for originality there. Anime style is also too restrictive in my opinion, since everything has to be drawn in a particular way, giving little space for personal styles to bloom.

Personally I love black and white comics. But contrary to what most people think, black and white takes a lot more work than color.
And not every art style look good in black and white. My own comic was black and white for many years because I could not leave behind the "traditional" way to do things. Knowing your art, I don't think you will have any problem with color. You have very solid skills on that.

This is another where my personal tastes will weight more than any practical consideration. I love stories. Short "gag" comics (newspaper style) give very little opportunity for character and story development.

Sci-Fi of course. Or stuff with action and adventure. Comics about people talking are usually boring.

Here we go again. The logical thing would be a comic that appeals to a wider audience. A general audience comic is easier to spread online, since people who read it will send it to others... while sex comics, you know. not everyone will link them into the facebook account they know their mom reads.

Of course, if it would be what I personally ant to see... yeah, comics with lots of sex. Purple dragon sex...

Last advice? Do a couple of small tests. A one or two page story. Post. Collect feedback.
Test how you feel on the medium and how others react to your work.

Thanks for the advice.

No worries about my art style changing very much if I did anime styled book. As my anime art and fur art basically use much the same style. If anything I wouldn't ever really call my art anime styled and more like anime inspired, with few other influence some American comics and cartoons in their as well.

Short "gag" comics can have plot and character development, but ironically it seems to takes a much a longer time to do so when it does. Look at comics like "Sinfest" where the some the characters are a lot different from when they first started out.
ThaPig

Yeah, I understand what you mean. the "gag a day" strips take longer because you need a punchline for every 3 frames. It's a matter of tastes. I worked doing those and I hated it.

Would you like to see me make comics?
Yes; I fond longer characterisation (stories) creates depth and attachment.

Would you prefer comics to be fur related?
Yes; but anything else from you I'll gladly read!

Do mind black and white comics? Or do you only read color ones?
No preference; but if adult; I like colors,

Do do like news paper styled (3-4) panel gag comics? Or do prefer full page comics with more story and plot progression?
It depends:
Do you want to tell jokes? Are you a witty person or don't have a lot of time or skill to produce long comics?
Do the small one.
Are you used to write stories? Do you have long complex ideas or do you have strong ideas about your fantasies and characters? Do you have a lot of time to put on this or are you fast on drawings to make long comics?
Then go for the long one.

Do you have a favorite genre?

I like character development and iconoclasm; Tak classic genres (superheroes, classic litterature characters) and have them do something different or taboo. (furry version of Alice in Wonderland, the sex life of Teen Titans)

What maturity level would like to see from a comic from me? (Adult/porn comics I think would very niche, and hard to gain broad readership)

I would argue to the contrary. Why dumb yourself down? If sex and adult themese and serious tones are part of your mind, your frank discussions about politics and psychology with your college buddies; then indulge in your love of adulthood (like any sane individual).

I do so hate american comics that try to tackle serious 'adult' issues (like X-men did racism in the 70's) but will not come close to a mile form real sensitive issues  now (gun control, creationism in school, teen sex ...or any sex)
RisingDragon

thanks for all response!

I think my biggest problem with typical American comics is the format. There just way too short issue wise, and the story telling on whole rarely feels natural, as lot times each issue tries overdramitic and end off cliff hangers that a lot times doesn't even go anywhere, and  so on. I love when comics know what their central thyme is and mold their story to fit that thyme.

I probably would be uninterested in non-porn, non-furry comics. And that's okay :)

I hope you have a hell of a lot of fun with it, and learn lots of good stuff that will make your porn stuff even better!
Catwheezle

I should answer the questions asked. I hate when people don't.

> Would you like to see me make comics?

If I had to choose between porn and comics, then porn, no question.

If the choice is: porn, or just as much porn, plus comics, then... eh. I do read a fair number of non-porn comics, so... it's feasible I might be interested?

> Would you prefer comics to be fur related?

Yes, almost all of the clean webcomics I read are furry.

> Do mind black and white comics? Or do you only read color ones?

I don't hugely care: read twice as many color comics than b&w ones, and some of those are colour because of their medium just doesn't do greyscale (rendered, etc)

> Do do like news paper styled (3-4) panel gag comics? Or do prefer full page comics with more story and plot progression?

In general, I avoid following strip comics. I prefer fewer, larger strips, less frequently.
Either *can* work. DMFA and Freefall manage to tell a story with the short form. But it's rarer.

> Do you have a favorite genre?

Porn. Fantasy. Furry. Sci-fi. I don't care. Just make it a story, not a gag shop.

> What maturity level would like to see from a comic from me?

Porn/adult, (like KitNKayBoodle, Death P0rn, Shadbase, Oglaf). Or, at least gritty (Jack, Goblins, Weapon Brown, Derelict, Bearmageddon...), or, at the very least awesome (Freefall, Dr McNinja, PS238, Girl Genius). If it doesn't deal with deep issues and gritty stuff, then it needs to be really damn stellar to rise above the crowd. Sure, Garfield and Dilbert do fine with banalities and gags... but that's not what I look for.

XKCD is a non-furry, non-porn, single-frame stick-figure plotless gag-comic, and carries it off well enough that I read it. That's RARE.

I've been drawing comics almost exclusively since I was 13 years old (not that my gallery reflects that, but most of my work never sees the light of day on the internet in reality so my gallery isn't a good judge on that). I prefer comics/manga over pretty much any other still art medium.

Would you like to see me make comics? Or would should I just stick just drawing illustrations?

A mix is always good, but honestly i prefer comics most of the time.

Would you prefer comics to be fur related? Or would enjoy an anime styled comic just as much?

Feral is best, anthro is second best, and then non-fur is still okay.

Do mind black and white comics? Or do you only read color ones?

Prefer color but am fully accepting of Black and White.

Do do like news paper styled (3-4) panel gag comics? Or do prefer full page comics with more story and plot progression?

Story and plot progression.

Do you have a favorite genre?

I like spiritually oriented stories like Shaman King and Bleach the best. I also quite enjoy ecchi, and of course hentai.

What maturity level would like to see from a comic from me? (Adult/porn comics I think would very niche, and hard to gain broad readership)

I would prefer it be full on porn, honestly. But if not then Ecchi is really great most of the time too. Sorry that doesn't help.
