Unpopular Gaming Opinions

Okay, got tagged by
SkyeEldrich
, to list my gaming opinions that might come off as unpopular to some folks.

Unpopular Gaming Opinions Rules:

1. You ain't gotta defend a damn thing. They're not wrong gaming opinions, just unpopular ones.
2. Tag some people when you're done so it will spread around.

(not sure who I'll tag, but whatever...)

The last good Final Fantasy Game was FF7.  And FF6 was still better.  It's all been downhill from there.

Sonic needs a reboot.  Heck, use the Archie Comics' continuity.

Story in a game is always, AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE secondary to the Gameplay.  If I want to spend hours watching a movie, I'll watch a damn movie.  I buy a game to play it.  And if the gameplay is entertaining enough, you'll never notice the story is barebones or badly written.

As a supplement to the above statement, Extra Credits has an exemple of how good, simple gameplay can be used to tell a more enthralling narrative then hours of cinematics, right here: http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/narrative-mec...

Historical World War II is officially DONE as a setting.  We've had enough FPS and Strategy games set in the period to tide us over.  Let's move on to another setting.  Pulp Sci-Fi/Horror World War II with Jetpack Nazis and Zombie Stormtroopers can stay.

Speaking of Zombies, they are getting kinda old too.  I think we have more then enough Zombie Apocalypse games to tide us over for a few years.

Old School Platform games are awesome.  More awesome then any modern gimmicky shooter.  All you need is a D-Pad and a Jump Button, and occasionally a Shoot Button.

We have peaked in terms of graphics.  We're not going to get any more 'realistic' then we get with High-Def graphics now, and frankly?  I think it's okay.

The Resident Evil games just got plain stupid after Raccoon City.

The ending to Mass Effect 3 Director's Cut isn't as good as what I would've done (I'd have put Illusive Man in a Atlas suit, and have him taken over by Sovereign for a final Boss Battle), but it's not a betrayal.  Stop Whining.

The Popularity of Casual Games is NOT the Death of gaming people.  Stop Bitching about it.   Casual Gamers are just ordinary people who enjoy trying out stuff like bejeweled or angry birds.  And you know what?  We hardcore gamers NEED them.  Why?  Because Casual Games are a gateway drug that leads to hardcore games.

As a corrolary, I'd argue the mass of Modern War FPS fans are far, FAR worse then Casual Gamers, because they all want the same damn thing over and over and over and over again.   And that is a death to creativity and innovation in the gaming market.

Mirror's Edge was sadly underrated and greatly innovative.

RTS games are more fun when you don't have to deal with other players.

DC Universe Online is a poor man's City of Heroes.  Sure, it's got good graphics and action-packed gameplay, but the customizability is SHIT.  City of Heroes always was the greatest Superhero RPG of all times, and NCSoft execs can GO TO HELL FOR CANCELLING IT!
