To my fellow furs...

by
To those who don't know...

I'm not a brony- I've never gotten into MLP, and it's unlikely I ever will.
I'm not into Pokemon or Digimon...
I'm not into oversized body parts...
I'm not into anime...
I'm not into videogames or gaming of any kind...
I'm not gay... (I am, however, transgendered.)
I'm not into drugs, drinking or even smoking...
I use expletives only sparingly...
I'm a writer, not a visual artist. That's my only real creative skill in this community.

I am, however, a furry, and I've been active to some degree in the furry community for over 28 years, now.

I am responsible for the term "plushophile", but don't own a modified or custom-made plushie...although I wish I did.

I was raised to be tolerant of others, even if I disagree with them. I refuse to push myself upon others.

My only goal is to entertain, and to show a sense of curiosity that I hope is shared by others.

If what I write makes you giggle a bit (or a lot!), puts a smile on your face, or sparks some level of imagination and wonder, I've done my job.

I'd rather be humble than rich or famous, any day...but I do need food on the table and bills getting paid, and being permanently disabled due to congenital rubella syndrome does not pay well. I never asked to be disabled. I never asked to be what I am. I have no desire to ever cause harm or trouble, just because of who and what I am.

I am chronically depressed, and have been longer than most of those reading this have been alive.

I am tired.

But I am still a furry. Have been since I was at least 2, and will be when I die. (I'm 47, now.)

My main character is exactly 13 years younger than I, and reflects what I would've been, had I been born a female. She shares the same weaknesses and interests as I, but not my disabilities. She is even smarter than I, and my IQ is about 130.

I will always be a furry, even if I get tired of some furs' behaviours.

I cannot deny what I am, just to please someone.

'Nuff said, for now.

Just goes tp show what a diverse culture furriness is. We should all celebrate our likenesses and differences.

It always has been for as long as I've been involved.

And for all that, sometimes I notice little traits and trends....

...Like how many furs like ELO, for one... :)

ELO? Not really my mug of hot beverage. My taste in music was shaped in the early 80s with heavily distorted guitars, thunder-rolling bass and drums and scrrrrrreaming vocals.

Alright, I'll see you that and raise the stakes with classic Led Zeppelin, which I heard so much on the radio in the early '70s... ;)

Seriously, until about 2000, probably 1 in 20 in the furry community were ELO fans, and yet many of the top ELO fans here in the US...were furries! :) Of the 6 people who created the Usenet newsgroup alt.music.elo in 1995, 4 of them- including me- were furries.

The ELO song "Jungle" was the inspiration for the tribal society of my leptictidium character, Ilene.

I'll listen to ELO if they're played on the radio, but I probably won't run out and buy their albums.

The first LP I ever bought was Restless and Wild by German hard rock grandmasters Accept. One of my favourite ever songs is still this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHCETcgWM7U

My first record, not bought for me, but bought with my own allowance, was Kraftwerk's "Autobahn", just a year after it was released on LP, here in the US... :P

I listen to just about every genre of music out there, and have gained a reputation for a rather eclectic taste in music. :)

Well, writing is a very special gift to posess. It grows the mind. It feeds the mind. It refreshes the mind like water refreshes the body. So, dont feel like you could be doing better than having one tallent. Coz' you're doing great with just one.

IDIC.  The greater the diversity of viewpoints, the better we can comprehend the Other.

On the other hand, it's easy to comprehend the Otter.  The Otter is a lover and a fighter.  If the Otter don't smack you a bit, the Otter will whack you a bit.  Perhaps even both. :p

I know the Otter well- He has been a good friend for so long, now... :)

And I've always felt IDIC was, and still is, one of the greatest philosophies ever presented-- Diversity keeps things from getting boring. :)

Waaait a minuet.  You're not into amines?  Why?  What's wrong with ammonia derivatives?  Heck, we need amino acids just to exist! :o

*smacks head* *edits* Fixed! :P My iPod's auto-spellcheck changed my typing from "anime" to "amine"... :P You're the first to notice it! (Crazy iPod!)

:P

Thanks for pointing out the error- I appreciate it. :)

Well, at this point, any new readers to this journal is not too likely, since it's scrolled down the New Notices page for most of my +watchers (down to 105, now, from 107)... So... Like I said, probably not, at this point.
