Last sunday, my grandmother had a stroke. She entered then coma and died this morning. She wasn't in pain and she had a good life, she was rich and never had to work or ever lacked of anything. I barely knew her, I met her a few years ago after my grandfather died (I never met him ever).
My mother's parents gave their three childs to a family to raise them, paying expenses but barely ever meeting them at all and not after they became teens. I always more considered my grandparents those who raised my mother than those peoples I believed I would never met in my life.
After my grandfather died, she made contact with us and I met her a few times. She was already quite old and suffering of memory lapses. She was a nice lady if eccentric.
As a boudhist, her body will be cremated and no special ceremony will be held. I'm not really affected by it. As I said, I barely knew her, but still, death is never a pleasant thing.
