I don't usually use journals on these sites, but I thought I'd take a few minutes to update about what projects I have in the works.
Confessions of William Peregrine - I've already started writing another installment in this series. This has been an interesting project, as the main character is reflecting back on the first thirty years or so of his life and recounting some of the more socially unacceptable things he's done with his life. I really had fun writing the first one, and I think the second story will be just as fun, though the themes are different. As such, I'm a little concerned about what This story is taking place about eight years after "On Fucking my Girlfriend's Brother" and doesn't feature any returning characters save for Will. I have lots of ideas for additional installments into the series, but one of the reasons I really like the concept here is that I can jump around throughout Will's life and tell different kinds of stories while adding each "slice" to the final picture of Will, the narrator.
Team Spirit - This was a project I started working on two years ago, and pitched to my boyfriend, , as a potential comic or similar. He loved the idea, and even did some testing/model images. I also scripted out the first fifteen pages or so. Unfortunately, his day job and other demands made it too difficult for him to keep on task at a reasonable speed, so the project is kind of on hold. I'm debating my options for what to do with it. I have the story mapped out, so it seems a shame to waste it, but I'm not sure what options I have. I'm also keenly aware of Kyell Gold's Out of Position, which might have similar themes to this story (haven't read it yet, but intend to do so soon). I don't want to look like a biter. Anyway, I'll keep my ear to the ground on this one, but for now, it's on hold. Shame.
I have two separate fantasy worlds I'm developing for potential use in some kind of extended projects (either a story series or novel, most likely). I don't have much more to say about these other than that I'm working on them. If anyone has some good advice, links, ideas, etc. for world building, I'd love to see them.
Over the last year, I've been formally accepted into my graduate program. I'm continuing my studies, but with it being summer, I don't have as many demands on my free time. This means I can write for fun, which is a rare but enjoyable luxury. My hope is to get into a habit of writing regularly, so I can continue to make progress on things even after my fall schedule starts to kick my ass. I'm considering trying to do NaNoWMO in November, but that's always a challenge because it's right when papers and final exams are coming up.
Anyway, that should be enough to give people a sense of what to expect over the next few months. I'll post this to my journals on other sites as well.
