I too had a picture stolen and uploaded to DA. sad thing is the moron who did is no longer active. At least his entire gallery is overplastered with thief! comments. To remove said picture I had to fill out a shitton of paperwork, which I didn't because it should be obvious who it belonged to.

I don't really care except that it's so ridiculous. The user apologized but hasn't removed it. If it's not gone soon I'll eventually report it to dA admins. These tutorial pieces have been traced before but not altered like this, and for an art trade. It's completely stupid.

it scares me that this could happen to the pics i bought and like...i mean u give pple a way to learn to draw kool things how you draw them and then they rip it off you and plast another name and/or dont event give you credit or recognition! but claim it as their own!!

Another weird thing about this is the person left my name on it and superficially changed the text. It's completely clueless. I've had people trace these tutorial pieces before and didn't care but this one is so badly done it's crazy.

when i use ref tracing and post it i dont claim the art i state factly that i have used another persons pics ie their ref sheets and if i like the art and wanna upload it i ask for permission and state where and whom i got it from such as the cute cat ref sheet i have up, and the cute wolf and lion head, which i used ref sheets to create. its great that artists like yourself post stuff that we like and are able to recreate its just a shame that some people abuse the gifts yous give us (apologies 4 rant btw) and ok my stuff might not b great but its still my stuff ive drawn and i even give cred to artists ive bought, sorry it just angers me

No need to apologize. With the tutorials especially I'm glad if someone learns something from them. I'm especially glad if they learn how to construct drawings from them instead of just copying lines. But… editing like that. Duhhhhhhhh…

exactly, i copied the top half of the wolf so like the head and stuff cause i can pretty much get a nice looking lion cub head, well for me any ways xp and did the lower body section to try and improve my body work, which i think still needs improving, but im getting there slowly x3 but its not like im claiming the art for my self.....i just feel the frustration you feel and i hope this gets resolved, though in all likelihood the more fine arts people give the more there are people like this out there to steal and claim it for themselves

This is why I left DA. This isn't anything out of the ordinary on that site; art theft by 12 year olds is way too common there. Why they can't just man up and draw themselves instead of resorting to searching images on the site, slightly editing it and/or removing the artist's name off of it is anyone's guess.
Good thing the person he was "trading" with noticed it was stolen and refused to give him anything. Then again, it was clear as day it was. Even a two year old would say "This picture is stolen and horribly edited". Good God.

Last fall I met one of these art thieves in person at a local store opening. Not someone who had used my stuff but had been kicked off dA for art theft and harassment. She was obsessing over her 'daughter' (an iguana), her abusive older boyfriend (she was a teenager with a 30+ year old BF), and had weird badly done tattoos of things she didn't know the meaning of and was practically in psychiatric care. I'm hoping it is a 12-year-old who will learn better.

Yeah, tracing is usually fairly harmless. It at least gives one a better understanding of how the lines flow. But what this person did is just ridiculous. Where's the satisfaction in it? Nowhere to be found, not truly at least.
