Only one star!?

So, the starred rating system is kind of neat. It's Like It, Love It, Gotta Have It, except without the ice cream and song+dance when you tip.

But... since you can give someone a one star favorite, that opens up the can of worms for people to complain that their work is worth more than just a one star favorite!

Does it?

Let's have a dramacussion!

Until you mentioned it, I never noticed the star system.  I've been getting notices of favorites, but never shown how many stars any of them got.  Seems like basic stuff like stats and tracking is either being worked on or not there at all.

Once you click on a star, is there a way to even see what that rating affects?
I'm still getting the hang of the site.

My work is -always- worth three stars! Anyone who says differently hates me!!!

It'll lead to -some- sort of unspoken dynamic on IB, I just don't know what it'll be yet. :)

Well it's really meant to be a personal rating system used by the favorite-er. That's why it doesn't tell the artist or anyone else unless y'all go to that user's fav's gallery and sort by stars to have a look. It's not meant to be used for a popularity contest or even for the artist to know "how much of a favorite" it was they received. XD

I get the feeling the star thing is part of the backend system inkbunny is using. Unlike FA (I think) the site is built using some sort of CMS thingy.

You can sort your favorites by star order, so perhaps the star is just used for the favorite-er?

HawkWolf is correct; only the user (and us sneaky mods) can see how many stars have been awarded for a fav.

I am >constantly< impressed by the foresight and just plain sensibility that is displayed by Starling and all of you on staff here with little details like this. ^_^

Alas, it seems I may have overestimated our sneakiness. It doesn't tell you in the +fav notice, but if you go out of your way to look, you see it. For now, anyway.

I'm torn between liking the idea of sorting someone's favorites by how they rated them and thinking maybe it would be best for only the user to be able to see the ratings he gave. This site is so amazingly structured to just not be prone to most common forms of drama, but there's always going to be some little thing people will be able to find a way to be upset about something silly. Yeah, that's it ^^ Plus a bit more explanation in my comment below of course. :3

Stars are a "personal" rating system that make sense only in your own favorites gallery. So it lets you and others sort just your favorites gallery by what you thought was good, better and best. A user's favorites gallery is the only place stars are used to sort the order of submissions, and only the stars awarded by that one user, and only when you tell it to. :3

One star still means a favorite! :D
