Personal Project

So I jumped back on the SCA horse, and I'm cracking down on making my kosode. A kosode is the garment that predates the kimono, but is essentially the same garment with smaller and more rounded sleeves.

I am planning on making the pattern something like this.

The top third of the pattern will be up higher, and the middle and bottom thirds will be longer. Also the sleeves will be all one fabric.

I found this fabric, which is perfect for a period kosode. It's blue green faux shabori (Japanese tie-dye) clouds with hints of yellow and blue. It is very elaborate, and difficult to explain.

I also got a gorgeous golden wave fabric with metallic gold thread details. This will be the middle third of my kosode.

I bought both these fabrics. Now all I have to do is wait for them to arrive to start making my measurements and patterns.

I hope to have my kosode done before June. Yes I will be sure to take plenty of pictures.
