Anybody like marching bands as much as I do?

Around here every October begins the high-school marching band competition. Since 2002, I've only missed one of these. Thought I'd show off something from a few years ago from IMO the best military style band in our area. Though I have heard some horror-stories about how Hemphill practices. One rumor is that they have someone on the side-lines during practice who's only job is to drag the ones who pass out from the heat off the field while everyone else marches around them.

Sound is slightly distorted on this camera. They're not actually out of tune that much. I've not once seen this band NOT qualify for the next level.

I was in my high school band. Didn't march. Got to ride around town in the parade once. I was a drummer. I sucked X3
I can play by ear but I can't make music

Oh I know what you mean there. I've actually tried to write out the Legend of Zelda theme on paper, but the only way I could seem to make it work was make it into a 2/2 march, which I gather isn't how it's meant to be. Writing sheet music is harder than it looks

I didn't mind marching bands. Sadly, none of the ones in my area were that great.

I was more of a choir person anyway. There was that one time where the choir class got to join with the band and perform a piece, but that was about it.

Hehe, I could think of worse nicknames for sure. I had one guy always calling me "head" O.o
I played the trumpet. Could never double-tongue or hit the the high-C reliably, but I wasn't too bad. Interesting trivia, when you hit the high-F, (I think that would be E-flat for trombone) you're actually using enough air pressure to inflate a tire.... provided you don't pass out, hehe.

I'v actually managed to hit a high F with a trombone before, my teacher told me never to do it again or else he would switch me to the tuba...i can't play the tuba, only fat people are allowed to play the tuba.

Never was in a band, and didn't even care to. However, I did enjoy listening to them play... most especially the drummers. Most high-schoolers would get hyped up, but the drums made me far more relaxed than anything... so much so that I would almost fall asleep in the stands.

Most people would put my reaction to anything that causes... oh, how do I best put this... "intense?".... atomic waves like that, be it a marching band or Dirt Car racing, under the category of "bored as shit". But in my case... it's more like "feeling like a baby being rocked to sleep". xD

Ah, cute new icon. Fraid I've never heard of Buddy Rich. During the contest in this video, we had a guest performance from Lamar College's marching band, and holy shit they were awesome, and he drums were amazing! The drums just kept going while everyone who came for the bigger schools were trying to find their way out of the tiny stands. They must have gone on for at least an hour or more. I'd have got that too, but the camera was out of memory =(

Ah, sounds like a tough competition and Buddy Rich is the famous drummer supposedly world's greatest drummer

Heh yeah it's pretty tough considering it involves all the high-school marching bands in the state of Texas. That's alotta bands. Unfortunately I'm only ever able to go to our regional qualifier. I'd love to be able to go to the state finals at least once, but that's 5 to 7 hours away depending on where it's held. I've competed in two of them, the UIL's incredibly stupid rules disqualified me from the other two. Also didn't help that the one year we actually had a really good chance to qualify, that's the year we got the toughest judges I've ever seen. Hell, people from some schools were on the verge of riot after that one. hehe.
