I don't generally find this worth the time, since it's a LOT of work, but if you do it, make SURE that you do it before beating the wall of flesh. Trying to do it afterwords will be just about impossible (until you've earned better gear).

Yeah I had 50 purification powder and went to town on the corruption and made VERY little progress, so seems WAY tedious.

You sure? I was pretty sure it spawns a little off of the middle of the map and moves towards you until it reaches the end.

Well at least you didn't do what I did , after losing my save file so much. I just got a huge stock pile of monies and bought me that overpriced weapon. And a home made of Gold and silver muhaha!

You have terraria for PS3 or XBox360? If it's PS3 would you want to try playing together? I've already beaten WoF and have been hunting the new ores for a while.

Big tip for newcomers...make a pit around your base if it's ground level, and make a thick wall on each side. During blood Moons on hardmode there are clowns that appear...that throw bombs. They are a nuisance to your base if it isn't protected. Lava isn't a bad idea either for the pits, and having active stone blocks to switch on and off like a bridge is smart as well to let monsters fall into when the stones are inactive.

Ah thanks for that. I was considering making a lava trap of some sort. I guess when I get to hardmode it's going to become pretty much necessary. I have it on PC, didn't know you could get it for PS3. Well, either way, my ISP throttles me when I game online, so I can't play with anyone =( And no, I can't switch. Monopoly here.

For beating the wall of flesh, you REALLY want:
1) Molten armor
2) A strong RANGED weapon.  I would suggest the mini-shark, or a "hell bow" with half wooden and half unholy arrows.
3) Some form of speed increase.  (Hermes Boots or speed potion.  Both is better)
4) Agues Shield if at all possible.  This item means you won't be knocked back each time you get hit, which is a good way to get steam-rolled.
5) Arena or potions.  You need to be able to keep running and see what's coming
5a) One option is making a big long semi-flat arena with lots of torches.
5b) Another option is using a gravity potion, light potion, and night vision potion.  The gravity potion means you can fly over the lava, and the two other potions will let you see and react to what's ahead.
6) Health potions.  Of course
7) Regen potions.  (Trust me.  So worth it.)

Now, I'm sure you can do it with less, but for a first time you really want to be as geared as possible.

I realized I wasn't clear. Make sure you're using Healing Potions, not Lesser Healing Potions. You can craft he second into the first using Glowing Mushrooms.

Yesh, I has a glowing mushroom farm under my house. Too many lesser, but also too many glowing mushrooms, so no shortage of healing potions.

Cool. And if you haven't already done it, I'd suggest building an herb garden too, in pots. Also, make sure your whole "house(s)" are not made of dirt, stone, grass, mud, and sand. This is because you should probably expect that corruption (or similar) will reach your home, so you dont want the home itself being corrupted.

Now, stone is bad, but stone bricks, or any type of brick for that matter is fine. (Except dungeon bricks)

Yes, though that and daybloom are the easiest. You really want some fireweed, waterweed, and moonglow also though. Basically, you'll want the plants to make potions, because once hard mode starts, finding herbs will be MUCH harder.

Sounds good to me. Can you actually farm waterweed and fireweeds? None of the ones I found ever drop seeds.

There's a trick to it. Every herb* has a trick that makes it drop seeds 100% of the time. I suggest you figure it out for daybloom first, since it sounds like you have seeds for it.

After that, I'd suggest figuring it out for waterweed.

*Herbs are (by my definition) daybloom, waterweed, blinkroot, fireweed, moonglow, and deathweed. (Might have gotten a name lightly wrong.

Well lessee.. daybloom and blinkroot always drop seeds for me.. I've found that moonglow opens up at night and it drops seeds then.. hmmmmmmm.... I think I might be on the right train of thought here...

That mean you've got it? If not, I'd suggest trying to figure out what causes daybloom NOT to drop seeds but still drop a flower.

Also, I'd suggest just looking up Deathweed after figuring out the others, since it's rather painful to guess.
