Stressing the importance of keywords.:3

:3 Heya all!

Sorry to bother you XD I just... thought I'd talk to someone about this because it just seems that no one seems to really bother with the keywords too much yet.

Keywords seem to be a very important thing to this site as they assist the user in parsing content to themselves, and way from themselves. It not only helps promote you toward the crowd you desire, but also helps you get more watches and faves because users do not have to wade through content they do not wish to see to watch you (a problem with FA.) Users will not watch artists where they feel they will be assaulted with content that they do not wish to see so it is in every artists best interest to include proper keywords.

 Such things should include:

1.) genders, an image should always include a gender, especially in nude or pictures of nude content so it makes its way to its appropriate party and can be filtered out by those who are offended.

2.) fetishes (see above) helping some of us weed out the more unnerving fetishes, and putting it in the hands of those who want it :3

3.) points of interest / focus, for example, in non adult pictures if you're focused on the character, say jogging, add it. In adult pictures if your point of view, or focus is particularly on someone's butt, mention it.

4) species (obvious reasons)

:3 I don't really need to stress that by adding the appropriate keywords adds monumental value to the whole site as users are able to find and hide the content they want, a point that this site is prided for. (edit:) Also, keep in mind, those people who might be using excessive tags that don't actually have anything to do with their picture, you're just as likely to trip a block as you are to trip a search :3 don't do it.

I hope in future revisions of the site that there is a box with common keywords to click and add to your submission (where the user is encouraged to read through them and select) as well as a custom keyword box.

At the very least list the genders of all characters in a picture and any fetishes that could be problematic with other users. The rest is more or less to help people find content. :3

Thanks for reading this. :3 Hope I didn't ramble on too much.

Rambling is good! I've filed your suggestion with our dev team for consideration. :-)

Thanks :3 I didn't expect a moderator to randomly see my journal.

A good add-on to what I mentioned with keywords being selected would be a small description popping up when your mouse is in contact with the word, that way people not familiar the the jargon can get a bit of knowledge on it. It could be part of a growing mini-wiki part of the site where user description is encouraged.

We're all-seeing! Or at least have really big eyes. It's a job requirement. :-)

That's not a bad idea, although I think if they clicked it they might find out quite quickly what it was about as well . . .

While that is true, its easier to prevent scarring with a text description of whats to come. :P Pandora's box cannot be unopened. You cannot unsee it. Though, this more or less applies to artists adding tags. It would be a list of usable tags with a click-able link that adds a tag to the list similar to how one adds pictures to a pool. Hovering the link would give a description for the artists adding tags, though it could be just as effective for the end user, err, customers as well in the actual art piece I suppose, or those browsing over lists of popular tags.

Tell me about it - I run WikiFur, too, I see it all! ;-p

Mmm, yeah, it would make sense if it offered tags they weren't familiar with.

I made edits on the last comment while you commented lol. Still, the only reason I bring it up is that y! Gallery was similar. While the bit of exodus from them was bitter, the features on the site were pretty sound on how they handled tags. It just lacked the feature to add in custom tags, or keywords, in the case of InkBunny.

Personally I think it would be cool if you could suggest tags to an artist via the user interface. That would solve a lot of the "missing tag" issues.

That would be interesting as well, though as I've seen it when a user is not presented with lists of possible tags, they tend to forget to tag it at all, under tag, mis-tag, or their personal digression would make them not add a tag because the particular topic to them does not fit with personal definitions of what their subject is. While not trying to be a keyword nazi, keywords do need to be a little black and white. lol

Ooh! More interesting still, the list can be also reverse fitted to be a block keyword suggestion list, helping new users pre-emptively block uncomfortable keywords.

Great journal and many good points! I'd also love to see some of the suggestions in the comments implemented, as well as possibly a feature for reporting keyword abuse? I've done a few keyword searches and have come across a few pieces that are tagged with a long list of popular keywords that have nothing to do with the image in question. :/

Thanks n_n I was worried no one would read it but the moderators... hehe. :3 On the keyword abuse; oh I hope so, though technically you should be able to trouble ticket that, or send a message to one of the mods. Though in a sense, if its using tons of tags, its just as likely to be blocked by as many as it gathers so its a really bad idea to mistag c.C *thinks about amending that to the journal*

Yeah please file a Trouble Ticket (link is in the page footer) if you see keyword abuse. :O

Thanks for these ideas! I'll take them all in to consideration! We are hopefully going to implement Community tagging soon, which means a lot of the missing keyword issues will be fixed by the viewers themselves.

That would help in some cases, but, if people are free to tag images, how would it prevent trolling? Also: damn I love you guys for reading my journals. XD I don't feel like I'm talking to a brick wall like FA.
One MORE thing: :< where the heck are inkbunny forums. X3 My journal needs a sticky. hehehe.

Artists will be able to reject keywords added by other users, and possibly even to turn off community tagging for their images. If anyone trolls using keywords it's no different to trolling via comments. With one click they get banned and all their changes vanish in a cloud of smoke.

So more or less it will be suggestions?

Yeah that's a good way of describing it!

Its not too much different than commenting and requesting they add in certain tags. *giggle* Hmm. In place of all that, it should be more or less the users suggest the tags to the moderators who review it. Enforce tags that are more or less mandatory, and leave a note about what non-mandatory tags have been suggested by the users. It would be more effective than users requesting it, on a psychological level. It would definitely get the artist's attention much better for administration to request them into action than their user base.
