I dunno, all I know is that laptops are supposed to last longer than four years.

not all of them. depends on lots of variables

1: cost bought for
2: new or used
3: Gaming or normal
4: how often its used
5: how long its used daily
6: is it well ventilated/cooled
7: you dont keep it plugged in to the wall while using it ONLY for charging (#1 thing that kills laptop batteries next to over heating or the rare faulty battery)

Mine's the faulty battery. I've used mine every day for the past 3.5 - 4 years, when it's the weekend, I'm on about 8 - 10 hours on weekdays I'm on five at most. I only have one main vent.

well thers lil tables that can help keep your lappy cool.. amazon has many an theyre pretty good. an your laptop, then if thats the case HAS hit or exceeded its maximum life span hun. Battery included. you are lucky it works still an just needs a new battery. get one from Amazon, and a cooler you might get 1-2 more years.

If you often have your laptop hooked up to the mains for hours or even days, or in other words use it as a stationary computer, it's vital to remove the battery pack. Else, it will continuously be charged and discharged, ruining the cells inside.
