I caught a mousie!! ....or not....

The first time I caught this little guy, I didn't take it far enough away from the house and it came back, so I've been resetting the trap every night. Two nights ago, he plopped into the bucket again. I managed to get there before the kitty finished her investigation. However, when I reached in to get the tube, the mouse CLEARED the rim of the bucket and got away. I had no idea they could jump that fucking high!

Just a few minutes ago, I heard a plop into the bucket. Usually the mouse is asleep during the day, but I guess it just wanted a bed-time snack. I rush over to the bucket, halting the kitty's investigation, see those little feet in the edge of the tube, and slap a box lid on top of the bucket. GOTCHA!

I pick up the bucket and take it about a mile down the road this time. I'm around a corner where there's a big flooded area between me and the house. Surely the mouse can't navigate its way around all that and back to my house.

I open the lid to let the mouse into the woods, and... no mouse. Sitting on top of the tube was a fat lizard who had just finished off the cheese. Well.. that's one LIZARD that won't be making its way back into my house again.

Hehe, Jerry is such an asshole. I watched a few episodes recently, and not only did Jerry instigate the whole scenario over half the time, but there was one moment in particular where he broke Tom's tail. CRACKED it right over his knee. Gotta love the old days of cartoons.

Mice can navigate their way home from -miles-, they're also excellent swimmers, so if you want to let your mouse go you really do have to go out of your way.

That's gonna suck without a vehicle.

what type of mouse is it? If it is a field mouse, it's weird that it would come back to you. If it is a house mouse, your best bet is catching it and either bringing it into an animal store or adopt it as your new pet, otherwise you are just asking the mouse to bother someone else.

Another possibility is obviously killing the mouse with all due respect and feeding it to the worms. (or whatever animals you have around that eat deads)

also: I would have liked a plicture of that lizard, they are often pretty cute, even when they are fairly big.

I didn't take it NEARLY far enough away the first time, and I expected that might be the case, but it was dark and I was tired. And yes the lizards around here are ADORABLE! This one was small, just fat. I didn't have my camera with me though, but I do have some pics of an anoli laying around here somewhere I can show you. Those are the cutest. ^_^

You know I was actually thinking about your first post a couple days back and wondered, "Why didn't the mouse jump out of the bucket the first time?" Guess my brain waves got to the mouse. Sorry bout that. ^w^;
That looks like a nice lizard though. Better hope it didn't leave some sort of lizard brood behind. o.o
