The first time I caught this little guy, I didn't take it far enough away from the house and it came back, so I've been resetting the trap every night. Two nights ago, he plopped into the bucket again. I managed to get there before the kitty finished her investigation. However, when I reached in to get the tube, the mouse CLEARED the rim of the bucket and got away. I had no idea they could jump that fucking high!
Just a few minutes ago, I heard a plop into the bucket. Usually the mouse is asleep during the day, but I guess it just wanted a bed-time snack. I rush over to the bucket, halting the kitty's investigation, see those little feet in the edge of the tube, and slap a box lid on top of the bucket. GOTCHA!
I pick up the bucket and take it about a mile down the road this time. I'm around a corner where there's a big flooded area between me and the house. Surely the mouse can't navigate its way around all that and back to my house.
I open the lid to let the mouse into the woods, and... no mouse. Sitting on top of the tube was a fat lizard who had just finished off the cheese. Well.. that's one LIZARD that won't be making its way back into my house again.
