If you want to make tag suggestions...

by
PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT TOO REDUNDANT OR OTHERWISE UNNECESSARY

If one of my pics is tagged with males and females it does not need male and female or male/female or male_female or male_on_female most of the time since I'm usually pretty good at tagging my own stuff.     By all means keep suggesting tags but try to keep the spamming minimal.

thankyou

Edit:  Ok reworded myself a bit.

The redundant tags are actually good for finding stuff with search results. If someone searches for m/f but you don't have the tag, and instead only have male and female separate tags it won't show up.

Tags are not just for content blocking, but it's up to you how you wanna handle it. :3

Hmm, yeah I guess, its still annoying though.

I haven't had any real experience with the community tagging, but I thought they added a feature where you can click 1 button to accept all.

redundant tags are a good thing.
as an artist, you should be the one tagging as good as possible in the first place. It's simple: the better you tag the less suggestions you are going to get.
If you are getting too many suggestions, it means you are too sloppy with tagging yourself.
comunity tagging is just to support you in case you miss something.

tl:dr
stop being a lazy bitch and tag properly

I dunno sounds like needless busy work to me.

Community tagging is good, but there's no rule that says you must tag every little thing. You must tag certain key things such as "cub" or "rape" etc. But you don't need to always tag m/f with male_female, it's up to you if you want to or not, but it's not a must. And really, you shouldn't have to use both. The issue is that you can willy-nilly make up any tag you want, and this leads excess/duplicate tags for the same thing. Those are the tags that get annoying, and actually hinder rather than help.

I disagree, but that's alright.
And as fare as ruleset goes, you are correct.

IB's community tagging system's quite flawed, especially in comparison with the tag systems of boorus like e621. That site and many other boorus have a ton of features that are meant to prevent and resolve problems like misspellings, redundancy, non-uniform terms (e.g. "male_on_female" versus "male/female") and missing implied tags (e.g. "male/female" implies the tag "straight").

Yup, it's true. However this isn't a booru either. Considering that the community tags were kind of an after-thought I think they did a fairly good job so far. Improvements could be made, but some things are much harder to implement than others. Going through all the tags at this point to make them more uniform would be an absolute nightmare. Implied tags could be done, but still not easy given the current state of the tags.

I think if they really wanted to, it could be revamped, but it would take a long time to do. And instead of typing tags in you would need to select them from some kind of list (Listbox/combobox/checkbox list/etc), or only allow ones from a list in the database ignoring any that are not. Any new tags would have to be requested, approved, and implemented to the list. This also means more work for the site admins/mods.

" Improvements could be made, but some things are much harder to implement than others.

I dunno, but perhaps it could be possible to reuse some parts of a license-compatible open-source PHP-based booru to implement stuff like this.

" Going through all the tags at this point to make them more uniform would be an absolute nightmare. Implied tags could be done, but still not easy given the current state of the tags.

Such data is already available on many boorus. One would need to get in touch with a friendly booru owner and ask for a copy of this data along with the permission to use it.

I don't want to get into great detail about the subject here, but ultimately I think it's a time issue, not a coding issue from my best guess. You can't use another sites list because their tags won't likely match the tags already in use on IB. However a similar system to manage it can be done. It's just a matter of who is going to take the time to manage/maintain it.

tag aliasing, yes, which would be nice for inkbunny to have

There are redundant tags I've seen around that I could do without (such as masterbating, spelled wrong and only has 53 associated images whereas masturbation has over 4000)

Although in images where nudity/sex is involved I would prefer tags like male/male or male/female. I generally am not amused when I click on an image where the keywords are along the lines of 'male, female, sex...' to find m/f but also m/m anal going on off to the side also.

I really wish you could hover your pointer over a thumbnail and see keywords for potential clues before clicking on the image and having to scroll past it quickly for clues.

Seems to me that "male" and "female" are really bad tags. They are essentially meaningless, as they are the two most common tags on IB.

Searching for them does basically nothing, so they are useless tags.

Blocking them is not feasible - if I want to block "male", then I will block just about every picture that contains a small piece of a male.

Blocking "male-only" works, however, if people will only tag correctly.

You can use those tags in combination with other tags to find what you want. An example for two search queries including "male" or "female" are "cub male bathtub" and "cub female bathtub". The former will present results that definitely contain a male character, and the second one will display results that definitely contain a female. So if you're looking for either genders, you can specialize your search, sorta.

you are not the only one who is having issues with user tagging
