Important News

My stepfather passed away about thirteen hours ago.  The family's pretty broken up over this, myself included, so my output is probably going to drop off a cliff for a couple of weeks.  My apologies for the inconvenience.

Also, here's a word of advice.  Should you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to care for an ailing loved one, look at it as an opportunity rather than a burden.  It can be an unpleasant and thankless task, but it affords you the chance to share their last moments with them.  I was there for my stepfather physically, but my spirit was elsewhere, and it's something I deeply regret.

Aye I can relate to that bottom portion of what you said--well all of it really, but that part as well. Anyway. Sorry for your loss :c

First of all: Can't say I agree with you on that second part. Some people can be so demeaning to a person's choices in life, that it causes one to doubt every decision they make in life. I happen to have a few relatives like this. Best to stay away from such people, even if they are part of your (extended) family, else they can destroy your life.

Secondly: Take care of yourself and the rest your family.

I get what you're saying, but my stepfather never meant to be difficult on purpose.  He'd groan when he was turned on his side while being cleaned and he'd need to be taken to the toilet when he had the strength to get off the bed, but I don't think he was trying to be a burden.  It had just reached a point where he couldn't do anything else.

If anything, I wish I had been more giving and patient.  Some things I did for my parents willingly, and other things grudgingly, but I could have worked much, much harder to lighten the load on my mother's shoulders.  She was there for my stepfather, body and soul, while I made the mistake of phoning it in.
