Hurrah, a site stealing our stuff

As noticed here: https://inkbunny.net/journalview.php?id=71437

FurryMax.com is using the art without personal responsibility.

Apparently I'm in their section too. Funny, me and
GamiCross
GamiCross
aren't getting a dime either. I was hired by them and I didn't even know it!

Takedown will be tricky... suggestions are welcome.

how do you find out if you are on the site?
ButtercupSaiyan
11 years, 1 month ago
By having a friend who signed up for it then noticed some ... discrepancies.

I remember pay site that had similar issues.  I recognized the art, pointed out to several artists their work was being used on a pay site without their consent.  None of them seemed to care.

<EDIT>
Just commenting on those particular artists, not artists in general.
<EDIT EDIT>
Same server, actually.  Adult Empire seems to be chock full of stolen artwork.

Could be difficult. After doing some clickery-click style research, I found out that they're Adult Empire is probably a Russian company. Web sites like this seem to be part of some kind of referral program scheme where people make a web site linking to Adult Empire-owned sites. Just hover the links on the link in the OP or click them.

West Indies, actually. Though if they set it up smart the paper trail probably runs everywhere.

Send a takedown notice to their host. If they're doing something illegal, which they are, the host will cut off their hosting if they don't take down the stolen content, unless they do the hosting themselves.
Do a whois lookup on furrymax.com.

Can you get anything useful off of here?
trashbunny

That won't give you information about the host, but just the domain owner. You have to look up the company who owns the IP address block to get an idea who to get in touch with for a takedown request. Looking at said data, you can see that the registrar of the domain also owns web space at eNOM as the domain's bound to one of eNOM's static IP addresses.

However, the domain owner's not really the real culprit. The web site hosted on said eNOM server only is a bit of a "placeholder" as the actual web site you see is loaded using the <frame> HTML tag. The tag's src attribute links to a path on the domain www.actionvideopictures.com, which is owned by the same person. However, the address info is different.

If you look at that web site, you can see that the pictures are unfortunately hosted on Adult Empire servers, so it can be tough getting those things down. Nevertheless you could probably still try to get in touch with the company hosting the data of www.actionvideopictures.com's web site. The name of it is iWeb, and the possible name of the web space owner's listed here. If I look up the handle that's listed there, I get this info.  Some Indian guy seems to be owning this.

Makes you skeptical of that domain info.

In that case as BTBunny said below, it's a fated circle. I have seen this happen not only with furry content but just any hentai content, I've even encountered some of my pictures a couple times but didn't bother.
Makes me wonder though who would sign up for these sites? Do they still make money out of this scam?
trashbunny
11 years, 1 month ago
Obviously enough that they can offer a referral program to people who host those copyright infringing referral web sites.
ButtercupSaiyan

Yes, people actually do pay for porn, lol.

It's just as content creators, we go through the valid channels and we forget about things like this. And I'm bothering this time. They got me on a bad day when I can't seem to get enough votes for my artbook on Offbeatr.

Yeah, I know people pay for porn, just these of pages do not seem like the kind you'd like to show your wallet to them...

If you want, I can send you the owner's phone number or address. If the polite 'please take this down' attempts don't work, and the hosting service is equally unresponsive, taking the communication to a more personal level can do the trick. A friend of mine has gotten a whole lot more luck this route when dealing with scammy internet stores.

It's really easy to register a domain without handing over personal/business details. I've done so myself. If there are details it's usually some proxy company and it's unlikely you'll ever get anything from them.

That's possible, yes. I was thinking it might be the case here, as they are linked to a lot of domains. There are always people along the way who can do something though. Not saying they will, naturally. :/

Won't do much good. The address points to a residence, and the residence is vacant. Considering that this is yet another Adult Empire site, I'm not surprised by this. This has happened in the past, and they respond to DMCAs by taking down the website for a while, then putting it back up under another name.

This shit is deplorable. Anything I'd suggest has already been said, so I just hope you're able to get something out of this as it does sound like it may be tricky due to how the site works. Good luck with it.

It's yet another Adult Empire site. They've been doing this since the late 90's. File a DMCA, and the website disappears for a while. Then give it about 3-4 months, and another one will show up again.

Tell me if I'm on it. I severely doubt that I am, since my art isn't that great and none of it is colored, and only some of it is inked, but I'll help somehow if I can.

It's like a bunch of user's art here and on FA got stolen.
Saglinger

The other artists I've seen and actually recognized on the their collections(hell even on their 'free tour' pages), are the rather infamous Jay Naylor, and Bewildered Art(Wilde Home for Wayward Catgirls).  I think I actually saw one of Scribblekid's pieces..  I actually signed up for one of their sites once(I should have demanded a refund, such a rip-off).

But yeah, it seems like every single animation site hosted by adult-empire.com is entirely populated by stolen artwork.  Especially the furry art sites.
Saglinger
11 years, 1 month ago
I actually found one artist on FurAffinity(Bagheera) because one of the AE websites actually left the watermark intact.  I informed the artist.  Said artist was surprised as they had never actually given permission for their art to be on the pay site.

It has already happened so why not to try to look on the brighter side of things? Even if you took it down another ones will pop in the future, it's inevitable. Anyway, I wish you luck in taking it down, just don't get too stressed about it - it's not worth it ;)

I guess artists should release their art with large watermarks on their stuff so this kind of thing doesn't happen.
ButtercupSaiyan
11 years, 1 month ago
Nah, that just ruins the art.
Shokuji
11 years, 1 month ago
I agree, but I understood why artists do that.
ButtercupSaiyan
11 years, 1 month ago
It's pointless because they can just filter it out or Photoshop it out anyway.
Shokuji
11 years, 1 month ago
But that takes work, and these people are pretty lazy most of the time. That's why they're stealing other people's artwork rather than making it themselves.
