15 Years in the Furry Fandom

Know what I realized? As of the start of March 2013, I've been in the furry fandom now for fifteen years. Fifteen years! That's actually kind of scary. Especially when I remember that I've been doing this thing for almost as long as some of the people who are watching me have been alive.

Where the hell as all that time gone?

Anyway. Thank you to everyone who as watched me, favorite my commissions, commented on same, and especially to all you wonderful people who have brought my crazy, raunchy, insane ideas to life. I wish I could take every one of you out to dinner, or buy you a beer, whatever your pleasure, to thank you for fifteen years of friendship and sheer entertainment!

Wow. Is that how long you've been officially part of the fandom?

It is indeed. It's kind of scary to think how long I've been here!

Spring chicken, er, bunny... ;)

28 years, officially, as of January, for me... :)

Goodness! That's quite an impressive stretch of time! It's kind of nice to know that there are still people here who have been in the fandom longer than I have, too. Some days it seems like everyone I meet is 19 or 20 years old! And congratulations on making it 28 years in this crazy fandom of ours! That's awesome!

Of the million or so (not an exaggeration!) furries out there, globally, perhaps fewer than 2 dozen that predate me are still active, since many have indeed "retired" from the furry community... Just how old is furry? Well, it was founded on opening night for the animated Disney movie, Robin Hood waaaaaaay back in 1973 by friends Kay & Nicolai Shapiro and Mark Merlino-- My God, that's 40 years, now! O.O Me, I had nothing to do with them, being I'm some 650 miles north of LA, where it all started... ;) Instead, I and a few like-minded comics buyers started getting together for weekly meetings at the local comics shop (which had a nice gathering table), and started talking furry-- That was January, 1985. By 1990, I was, at that time, the last furry I was aware of in Humboldt County... Then I discovered furry/toon art after getting my first computer in June, 1991 and joining Tandy/Radioshack's online service (PCLink), which would later become AOL... 2 months later, I joined Delphi, a similar (and cheaper) online service, learned about Eric W. Schwartz's Amy the Squirrel, started the first furry forum there (later taken over by "The Coyote Lady", Joe Ny's wife and later founder of ConFurence East, after I left Delphi for the BBSes and the internet... I've been on the Internet itself since January, 1993, just before the Internet Explosion. :)

Throughout all the turmoils in furry (including several attempts by conservative furries to "take back furry", as well as "Burned Furs"), I still remain... While my best known works are two Tiny Toons sex stories (including the comics adaptation of the second one), my real claim to furry fame.......is my longevity. I've been in the furry community longer than the oldest-surviving MUCK/MUD, which was the second-such ever-- FurryMUCK, and that was started in 1988... (And no, I don't do MUCKs and such...)
