Ni No Kuni and Shirokuma Cafe

Ni No Kuni: FUCKING AWESOME. JUST GO BUY IT RIGHT NOW. SERIOUSLY! But yeah, I've put almost 70 hours into this game and I love it a lot! Almost done with all the post-game stuff, but still there's always a lot to do. Good times and lots of cute things too! And you can never go wrong with Studio Ghibli's animation.

Shirokuma Cafe: Just finished watching Episode 44 and JEEEEEEZ does it give you all the feels. Usually I'm not big on Panda (since he can be an asshole) but damn did I feel really sorry and sad for him in this one. I won't say anymore than that, but it does make you feel quite a bit. Very good episode.

And if you don't know what this show is, here's some links:

They have that show on crunchy roll I believe, I saw the cover and just passed on,I didn't think it would be anything good. Maybe now I will have a look. Also I watched my friend play that game, it was very interesting to say the least :3

It's a pretty funny show, so I actually thought it was refreshing for them to do an episode that pulled your heartstrings.

Played it, beat it, thinking about writing a review about it.

It's honestly over hyped. Dont get me wrong, the game is EXTREMELY good but it is no savoir of the JRPG X3 one thing in particuler pissed me the hell off you get several spells, and NEVER use them in the entire game. they just take up space in your wizards companion. Some of the spells you CAN use you only use literally once. For a game with such a focus on magic and being a wizard thats out right criminal.

the worst thing is the final spell you get at the end of the game. I wont mention it here for fear of spoilers but what that spell says it can DO is a major kick in the nuts! With the things it hints at the game allowing it's cruel not to have the option to cast it or an explanation IN GAME as to why Oliver WONT and or cant cast the spell.

Oh well that aside it really WAS a very fun game. I had issues feeling as "into it" as i have with other JRPG's but it was a really fun ride.

I think Ni No Kuni is what JRPG's needed. After countless shitty Final Fantasy games, and very meh Tales of... games each year, this really was a breath of fresh air. We don't always need brooding/emo protagonists or characters to make a JRPG fun or interesting. Sure there were serious moments in this game, and Oliver was hurt at the right points considering all he's been through, but he always got over it and looked on the bright side. He's honestly one of the best main characters in a JRPG. It's been years since I've seen one as good as him.

As for getting several spells that you only use once, it didn't really bother me all that much. I know the game has a focus on magic and whatnot, but most of the spells that were essential to the development of the story were the ones you would use the most, besides all the magic spells to fight enemies. And sure you get the Quake and Werecat spell that have no use in-game, but that didn't really bother me, considering I already had Oliver and his familiars to where they wouldn't have needed it anywas, whatever it is the spells would have done.

Also, what spell do you mean? I'm trying to think of which spell you can't cast and Oliver won't cast, but I don't remember what it was.

it's one of the two final spells you get after defeating the final boss of the game You learn the Nix Spell and "the other spell" wich honestly the way some of these spells are set up it allmost feels like they intended a use for them but they removed or never finished the ideas they were working on for the spells. That or there planing some kinda DLC later

I can live without useing some of them but others make literaly no sense. for example the vanish spell. You get it from the fairy queen but you cant ever cast it. It turns Oliver invisible and removes all trace of him from reality so he's entirely imperceptible.

then you get Vail, a spell that hides your presence from monsters and effectively does the same damn thing vanish would have X3 whats the point of vanish? It's like they put a ton of spells in there, then took some out and never bothered to remove them all the way from the game. The fan community is very puzzled over it

I looked more into "the other spell" which is the Resurrection spell. If you look at the spell in the Wizard's Companion, it tells you exactly why you can't ever use the spell. It's still in the book yes, but they do give reason why it's not usable.

As for the vanish spell, you kind of just answered your own question on that. Vanish turns Oliver invisible and removes all trace of him from reality. Veil hides your presence from monsters by casting a shrouded of fog around you, but it doesn't actually turn you invisible. You're still there, and the player can see that Oliver is still there, even with this fog around them.

It's the same thing as Resurrection. The spell is in The Wizard's Companion, but it is pretty much forbidden and not useable. And besides, why would you ever want to turn yourself invisible and remove all traces of yourself from reality? Same with Resurrection. Sure you can bring back your dead mom, but what if doing that kills you in the process? It doesn't say what the major consequence is for using it, but it would have to be something quite serious. Almost any game with wizards or witches is gonna have that spell that says don't do it, but the stupid wizard uses it anyway and fucks everything up. Oliver has enough sense that if the book tells him don't use this spell because it's bad, he wouldn't use it.

So...yeah. I dunno.

point is why give you the spell at all it souldent even be in the game it's presence hints at intended content that they either did not implament or took out or will implament later.
