:/ car troubles

by
I just lost a day worth of pay because my car wouldn't start. Had to use one of my AAA tows to get home. The battery tested functional. I'm thinking it could be the alternator not handling my aftermarket stuff (stereo and inverter) well or my starter getting oil leaked into it. Either component is $100-150 a pop. I think I'm gonna try the alternator first because it's easier to get to and it was turning over before and then stalling out. If it was the starter it wouldn't have turned over, right? If it's neither of those it's probably a computer problem or fuel injectors or something I can't fix by myself. So much for all the money I was making.

this sucks
it might need another battery you might be draining the power that your battery has faster than your engine can replace it
im thinking either another battery or two or perhaps a capasitor for your stereo  might be a good thing to check into
your car might be fine
your batter is for the engine and the factory componets its not madde for extra stuff however an additional battery might help the issues your care is having

The battery was the first thing I checked. It's only a few years old and has zero corrosion on the terminals. I put a multimeter to it and it seems to be going strong. Also, the problem started with my car starting in the cold and not starting after the components warmed up. I was under the impression that batteries liked to be warmed up and disliked the cold. Thanks for the input though. I will keep it in mind. ^^

Nice. :3 But my car wouldn't start with jumper cables connected to someone else's battery. Did yours have that symptom too?

the car should run without an altinator [only as long as your battery is full, an only last the charge of the battery] If it was the starter you wouldn't hear it turn over at all OR the starter may be making a high pitched whrrrrrl noise an not turning over the engine, IF thats the case your starter is stuck, give it a few whacks on it's side with a wrench an see if it will start [side of starter, not the car :p ].

Well the starter definitely wasn't stuck. My stepfather thinks it's the fuel pump so I'll let him do whatever he feels like before I re-order the alternator. If I piss him off, I'll lose my only free mechanic. xD

at least a fuel pump is pretty cheap, to test it you can unplug tha gas line from the carb [or injector, depends how new the car is] an turn it over, if it pumps gas it should be good. tho if it still acts like it's getting no gas you may have a clog somewhere in the fuel lines.

I hope your step dad can help ya out an get it running again!

Fuel filter was clogged and pump is bad. :/ It's a $140 fix. Not terrible. Stupid gas tank is in the middle of the car.
