LiveStream tips anyone?

by
I just finished checking over 80 notices here on InkBunny. You guys are awesome, honestly! ^^

So, I've been thinking about doing my first live streaming now that I'm here. I've never done anything like this, and I'd like to know what you guys think.

I know some artists sketch full pictures live, but the thing is I correct and overcorrect my art a lot. Don't get me wrong, I can sketch pretty fast, but if it's something that's going to be turned into a full picture I really like to get everything perfect before heading for colouring, so something like this could possibly get a lil' boring.

Maybe I could sell sketches and do live sessions for those? Like, 5 dollars a sketch, maybe do this on the fly when people join the session. I could just randomly sketch for free, and maybe pick one of your characters or even take an idea one of you pitched in and sketch it out, but that all depends.

What do you guys think about it? What if I do a live session and it's boring and it sucks, are you going to hate me forever? XD

Go for it and no we won't hate you. The only way your stream will suck is if all just re-stream Youtube videos. As for what to stream, I'd go with all of your suggestions. It doesn't matter if you spend ages working and reworking an image, chat rooms tend to entertain themselves no matter what you do. Offering quick sketches is also a great idea, lots of people do that or you can do a slave stream where someone commissions you to do a an image or several images during a stream.

Anyway I hope you do stream, it's a great way to meet new people and maybe pick up tips from more talented artists like you.

I go to streams mostly for the social aspect of it. Pretty much what Timidus says, chat rooms tend to entertain themselves. People also sometimes dedicate part of the stream window to cartoons or a movie, although I admit I don't know how to set that up. I tried myself, but I can't get it to work properly. Still, I am sure there are people out there who can tell you how to do that.

Offering sketches can also work, although of course you need the proper watchers for that. If you do it for free, you will probably be flooded with requests and if word gets around watchers. However, the chance of free art tends to bring out the worst in people, so sooner or later you will probably encounter some drama. If you do 5 dollar sketches, depending on the watch group you gather around you, you might get a lot of requests or it may dry up after a bit. Hard to tell in advance.

I am not quite sure how many watchers you will get in the beginning. Could be you get a lot, could be you get only a few. Either way, don't loose heart. If you enjoy streaming, even if you only get a few viewers, just keep at it. And don't worry about people "hating you forever", I go to a large number of streams and people don't take offence with "boring streams". Of course, the way you host the stream does matter, but that would not be a problem in your case, trust me.
