My job is being a butt about me getting my educational records over to them. I said they're in the mail and I can't do anything about bureaucracy, but apparently the onus is on me to make magic happen. So, sorry about that.
Unless its a college transcript, I would think its stupid for them to ask about high school stuff when they can call the Education Dept of the city you went for.
In NYC, the high school keeps your transcripts for 5 years and after that they are sent to the Dept. of Education (formerly the Board of Education) main records offices and then you have to deal with the morons there. I've heard horror stories of people who lost their diplomas and went to them to get a new one... I thank what superior being that created this universe that I keep everything in a locked metal box in order not to go through what they did. Thing is - I sent those people there to get what they need. UGH!
But simply showing your diploma is enough for most jobs, and if they want your school records, it is their responsibility to get them and not yours unless they request for your transcripts at the interview. To me this is a background check and they are responsible for doing it and not sending you (the employee) to get it done. If it were me, I would fake everything and print it out in color on fancy parchment paper and let them choke on that!
