I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.

This year's just barely started, and it's already been pretty damned shitty. Been sick twice and had three injuries, and we're only a week into February. One thing that happened was I majorly fucked up my back for about a week by.. reaching my arm out. HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK?! I couldn't do anything because of the pain, and the sudden, sharp stabs that occurred at random meant that I couldn't even sit in a chair or lie down without major pain.

Tack on top of that the fact that my work, which was cut back to four days a week for a good part of Q4 2012, has now been working us seven days a week, sometimes with 12-hour shifts. I'd come home every day and just be physically and mentally wiped out. I've been trying to work on some writing, but my brain has just been DEAD lately. Thankfully, I'm not working this weekend, so I'm going to be enjoying some time off. I can't even remember the last time I played a video game. How fucked-up is that?

I'm going to use tomorrow as a relaxation day. I'll be doing a stream in the morning/early afternoon. After that, I'm going to clear my head for a bit and try to get some writing done. I REALLY need to get back into the swing of it again and break through this fucking writer's block that work has been causing me lately. One story I'm working on has been restarted twice because I absolutely hated how it was coming out, and that one is my top priority right now.

So yeah, TL;DR: Work BS, illnesses, injuries, taking a break, streaming tomorrow, writing after.

For what I know of backs, lifting, and the like, usually the farther out from your body you reach to grab/carry something, the more stress it puts on the muscle. So whenever possible, keep your arms closer to your body, even if it means moving closer to get something.

Thing is, all I did (literally) was reach out about 3/4 of my full reach to turn my chair, then BAM, sudden sharp pain shot across my entire lower-mid back. I crouched down and was near tears in pain. I've pinched nerves and muscles before, but they didn't come CLOSE to the pain this caused me, and the pain spasms I had for the next week was just murder.

There's a good chance whatever strain was already there and it just triggered when you reached out. But chances are whatever caused it may have been from heavy lifting and twisting. Again, this is just what work's teaching me to help prevent injury. Especially back injury.

Here's hoping you feel better though!
