Slow writing, and a status update.

Hey there everyone. Just thought I'd post an official reply to the most asked question I've received in recent week: "When is Astray's next chapter coming?"

I want to take this opportunity to discuss the status of the final chapter and how my writing is coming along.

The first thing that needs to be said is that Astray's last chapter, like the final chapter for TS, covers the climax and the epilogue/denouement. Meaning, it's essentially two "chapters" as defined by how I usually produce installments in my stories.

In short: it's twice as long as previous chapters, and more important, so it's taking a little while.

The other problem I'm facing is just the natural "ebb and flow" of motivation. Few authors tend to be 100% consistent with their writing. There are times where they'll go into a frenzy of creation, and write tens of thousands of words in a single day; but then they'll find themselves struggling to focus on that particular activity.

You can call it writer's block*, but it isn't really. What it really comes down to is that, while I know exactly what's supposed to happen next, and I think about it all the time, and I want to continue it, right now I'm currently in the stage where I prefer doing other things with my spare time - mostly.

Obviously, yes, I have other obligations in real life that're simply cutting down on my spare time. When I do get moments to myself, I often am just trying to relax; I don't have the energy to go crazy and write that much.

This happens, though. Honestly, you probably won't be able to tell the difference either way - it's only me that realizes it. I am presently working on Astray right now, though, so yeah.

In short: I'm not writing full-time right now. Other hobbies and life in general is taking up more of my spare time than usual. This isn't permanent. Authors, except ones skilled at working to deadlines (not me) tend to work in cycles.

So, it won't be too much longer, but I can't give a proper estimate of exactly when it will be finished. Most likely, three stories will be released simultaneously.

* Thanks to a question asked in the AMA journal (response coming up), I'm going to share my thoughts about "writer's block" soon. This journal is just a quickie.

I know exactly what you're talking about. It's one of the reasons I can never bring myself to write more than short stories. I usually just use those random spurs of inspiration to write them and then leave them be. ^^;

Pretty much describes my predicament. When ch5 of my shitty story finally gets posted, there's gonna be an author's note at the start: "So. It's been nearly 5 months. Y'all probably thought I forgot about or discontinued the story, and you know what? That's how it seemed. The reality is that I've thought about it, talked about it with a friend, damn near every day since ch4 came out. I just couldn't bring myself to sit down, stay motivated, and finish it."

Difference here being that Astray and Tai's Story have actual depth to them because they're written by an actual writer, but still.
