TMI Tuesday. One Last Time

I promised myself I wouldn't do this anymore. But I'm feeling kind of lonely and more than a bit discouraged, so you have from not 'til whenever this drops off everyone's radar to ask questions if you like. Me, my characters, whatever. You know how it goes.

Thanks. And the questions don't have to be anything vulgar. I'm perfectly happy with the innocent ones, too.

And a tough question it is, too! I had a lot of favorites when I was a kid. But I suppose my favorite was always The Last Unicorn. Which is a bit of a predictable answer in this fandom, I suppose, but I've always been a huge Peter Beagle fangirl.

The Hobbit and Bradbury's Martian Chronicles are right there behind it, though.

Thanks, but it's nothing important. Just the usual bullshit angst that affects everyone now and then. It's kind of you to offer, though.

I'm not really much of a gamer, I'm afraid. I used to sort of fool around with a few games when I was younger, and I was a pretty big fan of the first two Warcraft games and the Baldur's Gate series. Plus I used to play World of Warcraft after my ex-girlfriend talked me into it. But I don't really play much of anything anymore, except for a handful of old Nintendo roms I fool around with. My brother's the gamer of the family. I pretty much suck at 'em.

So... I noticed this penchant of yours to use Irish Gaelic names for your characters... :)

*Hugs* Thanks. I appreciate it.

As for the names, it's silly, isn't it? I started writing what would be the seeds of my first novel back when I was nineteen, and still laboring under the delusion that I would make it as a historian. I was always fascinated with Irish history and mythology, even when I was a kid, and I really got into it when I was working on my undergraduate degree. While I was working on my novel, I drew a good deal of inspiration from the conflict that arose between Brian Boru and his factions and the Norse-Irish in Dublin around the end of the 10th Century CE.

Not that the book was meant to be a direct parallel of that history, or in fact to have anything to do with any real people or places. I knew even then that my history was far too faulty to attempt that. But I liked the idea of a more or less native population fighting against a group they perceived as invaders, even though the "invaders" had long since begun to integrate, as had happened in Ireland. So I sort of twisted things to suit myself, and gave the characters in the book names that fit the inspiration. All of which would likely give any proper Irishman fits, but I figure you're allowed one terrible book at nineteen.

As for my own ancestry, I'm pretty much a mongrel with ancestors from all over Europe. I do have ancestors from Scotland and Wales, though, so parts of my family are from almost the right place.

:)

Well, I'm part French (two great-great grandmothers on my mother's side, both came from Orleans, France; I have absolutely no idea about anything on my father's side, as I never knew my father), Irish (on my grandmother's side) and German (Catholic, of apparent German-Jewish heritage-- "Falk" is a Jewish name), with possible English and Italian somewhere in there. I have cousins of Native American blood (Yurok) by marriage, and cousins living in South Africa.

Irish Gaelic names are still well in use in Ireland and Irish communities, even if the Gaelic language is not as well-embraced as it once was.

I had dreams that somehow, a (non-anthro) leptictidium dropped in through time (from the Eocene era) and wanted to be my pet, and so I tried to think of a name I'd give her, in the rather unlikely event that happened, and I settled on... Siobhan. Yep, a Gaelic name... :P :)

Why are you feeling discouraged and lonely? (not the normal question, doesn't need an answer if you don't feel like sharing)

What's your favorite type of food?

It's nothing important. As the song says, it's life and life only. But I appreciate the concern.

I've always been terrible at picking favorites, especially when it comes to food. I'm not sure there's really one type I prefer over any others, to be honest. I enjoy experimenting too much, and there are just so many fun things out there to eat. On the flip side, I can't think of anything I wouldn't get awfully bored of if I had to eat it all the time, either. So I suppose the best answer I can give you is that I like a little bit of everything.
