Japan Earthquake (8.9) - Look out for donation scams

So... Japan just got raped by a very powerful earthquake very close to the surface. It's chaotic there, and all I can really do is hope for the best. A number of Inkbunny members live in Japan, and I don't know how most of them are doing. I'm hoping they check in soon--although Inkbunny is hardly going to be top priority if they've been affected by this disaster.

Look out for donation scams!
Within minutes of the disaster, fake donation funds set up by opportunistic assholes emerged from the woodworks, setting up Facebook accounts and scammy domains with templated websites to trick gullible people into giving them money. Be very careful.

How to help:
The American Red Cross.
Global Giving
Caritas Internationalis
Direct Relief

(I'll add more as I encounter them.)

Get the word out that there are both real (like the Red Cross) and maliciously fake scammers soliciting donations out there. If you can give, give to a real organization.

Thanks for the info. I heard about it on the radio in the convenience store on the way home, been following stuff since then. Despicable how people would try to profit from this. x^x

For every great tragedy, there is always some asshole looking to profit from it.
And people wonder why I'm an antisocial misanthrope.
