I don't know about you, but....

....I'm sick of seeing these new "FREE ART" journals on IB that lead to naught. Your thoughts on this?

Just as long as it's just for today, I'm fine with it. If it goes on though, I can see it being annoying.

I've grown extremely annoyed by it as well... A very good way to lose watchers if you ask me... I mean, think of all the people that wont click on their future free art journals when they advertise them seriously. Wonder if those people thought this through :/

If it's just to get watchers then fuuu... why don't people just gain watchers the natural way then if they want free art actually give away free art "preferably to people already watching you" limited time and number spots and call it a day. Now that's a true artist... I hate it when people spam with a passion

Man someone on FA i was watching would post like 8 journals a day offering free art someone else was giving away one of thoes : Pimp this journal" kinda thing

Fucking Annoying as hell it is SPAM  plain and simple. I Unwatched the guy. just so annoying.

I don't care if you want to get free art, or give it out but quit doing the damn make a journal pimping this one. Spam is something I hate. I block all the adds on FA as is, or for everywhere as well.

For the most part with the "post a link to a journal advertising this one",  I noticed that usually the people who commented within the first 10 or so are usually the ones to "Win" it. and I think that if you're gonna go to the lengths of having others pimp you out, it should gain more than just free art for one or two people out of the 20/30/50+ that comment, going to all that work just to see that someone the person knew is getting it, or if they knew they were looking for something specific to draw and one or two people matched that criteria...its real uncool. I've participated in these things all too often cuz as someone who cant commission, It's a real bitch to find decent art being given away or offered for free, when given false hope like these things tend to do, it just makes ya go "Why do I even bother with these people?" It's times like that which make me wonder why I'm even in all of this, lol. (especially If I notice the person only does the requests of decent artists, like that whole elitism thing. Just as an example, not saying this has happened: Elite Fur A knows that Elite Fur B is a good artist as well, so they do free art for them in hopes of getting on their good side and eventually they both do a shit-ton of trades just cuz they like each others' art styles, leaving those who can't draw to save their lives in the dust when they're the ones who really may need the art the most.) Sorry for the wall of text XD

I think it's pretty screwed up, but I personally don't have much concern for it. I don't like asking for art, free or otherwise. Got screwed over too many times and dealt with too many people that don't know what they're doing.

I say if its gonna be free, then pick 5 people at random from yer watchers list and make them a sketch.

I think its funny and silly. Sad how many people try to grovel for free art all the time. I say let the artist choose who to do free art for. Open up slots and advertise it themselves, having other people advertise just creates a flood of moochers who than later complain when they don't get a spot.

In all honesty, it angers me to see a free drawing opp, only to find it is no more than a red herring. I'm one of those that appreciate getting a piece of free art, especially since I cannot pay for it, and I also offer to color and ink and shade the lot once I get it, as a way of repaying others. Sadly, whenever I see a free art journal anywhere, I don't care for it, seeing as it is most of the time a raffle I can never win. I remember the days where, if someone said "FREE ART", it meant free art, no strings or raffles attached. I'm always willing to repay the artist with my coloring and shading, but it depends on the artist.

It why I don't participate much in them, since I am already busy with requests. (And to be honest, I rather draw my character, because my sona is my own creation.)

Oh yeah, those free iron artist things, where the artist pussies out 1/4th of the way through. xD I participated in those when I first entered the fandom.  I only received like 2 or 3 free arts, out of 10.

i've only ever done one iron artist commission.  i had to wait about 6 months or more for it but i got it.  that artist was just too busy at first to do it all but eventually got to them all.  does it still count as iron artist if you're not able to do it all within a month? (i think they are an artist for a website or something too so that came first apparently)
Jimbear
11 years, 3 months ago
It counts so long as it gets done.  But, 80% of the artists started with 10 commissions, then they dropped off, never finishing them. xD The ones I had to wait for were usually well worth the wait.

I'm still waiting on a few artists, notably

i don't even bother with them.  I treat stuff like that as if it were saying, "commissions open".  If i had the time to spend thinking up some art ideas i'd take it up on the offer (but i don't).  I have a list of art ideas but they are for specific artists or art styles.  I'm currently already working with an artist over Skype (currently suspending from FA and not interested in returning to the art community yet) so i don't have much interest in more art, especially with how big a project this is i'm doing with another artist.

and because I don't ever announce them, i have had a free request slot open for about 2 months
