Still considering doing commissions....

by
Almost a year ago, I posted a journal saying I'm considering making myself available for writing commissions. I still am, and have yet to do any, so once again, I'm saying I'm open to the idea of doing a story commission or two or three or...whatever....

Why? Like most, I need the money-- Try living on $680/mo. SSI Disability, with bills & rent... :P

Also, I need to write! :P I haven't written ANYTHING since "Marta's Song", back in Sept. '11... :(

For those new to +watching me, I'm a writer, not an artist- Most of the art you see here are gifts, requests, and the rare commission. I occasionally do some silly things in audio, too.

How much would I charge? I have no idea-- Hopefully, something fair...

What I'm not comfortable doing? Well....
I'd rather avoid anything having to do with commercial characters and the worlds they're in.... In many cases, I wouldn't know the references well enough! :P I don't follow things like MLP, Sonic, Pokemon/Digimon, anime or videogames, and I've been out of the toon fandom for the last 16 years... (That's right! I'm one of those rare furs who don't play videogames! :P )

I'd rather not do anything NC, forced, bondage, violence or anything like that... (Yes, boring!) Not into hyper, macro/micro, vore, herms, M/M gay, scat or extreme fetishes... I don't mind mild watersports, or squirts/female ejaculation, though... Although I like "cub", I never could "get" babytfur/diaperfur, so my range is a bit older...

I'm otherwise OK with both sexual and non-sexual scenes... I can work with most story genres, clean through VERY naughty, cub or non-cub... I like working with humour, science fiction, "slice of life", fantasy, mystery, historical, detective, even western and/or romance, or...whatever... :) Something furry, though...

I'm not big on hooved or finned critters, but... Whatever... :)

Anything else, negotiable... :)

How big? Well, my longest story to date was "Marta's Song"-- I prefer short stories, but if I'm gonna put my writing talents out there, I'm game for any length, I guess... :P

Unless the commissioner wants a surprise, I'd provide frequent updates and WIPs-- I want it to be worth whatever money for the effort! :P

I take PayPal (AmyMousie[at]yahoo[dot]com) -- I haven't decided whether to charge before or after, or half-now, half-later... I take donations and "tips", too... :P

So, then-- Anyone interested? (And did I leave anything out?)

I'm afraid I still can't.  It would be interesting to get a Winterfur tale with Deidrei (or another native character), a My Little Mousie brand of lunacy, or something else that has struck your eye, but I don't think I have to tell you why I can't. :(

Still, I would advise you to put up some more stories here on Inkbunny to build up a portfolio.  That way, prospective commissioners will be able to see a range of what all you can do as well as what your writing style is like.

You may also want to offer non-PayPal methods of payment with the caveat that the commissioner discuss it with you beforehand to see what will work and what won't.

Everything I've written in the last 20+ years is here (and the only thing that survives from before that, being parody lyrics to a Beatles song that I wrote in '81). I've written more in recent years (except the last 15 months have been dry) than at any other time in my life. I do need to write more- Part of the reason for this, actually... :P I just need a kickstart, and I was hoping making myself available for commissions would help (along with money to pay bills and fund projects like converting my camera for infrared/ultraviolet photography & videos).

No-one's offered to take me up on a commission, yet.

Although I also have AlertPay, I don't know if it works, or even if the account's still open! :P I don't know of any other alternatives, other than barter, which I've done before to commission others to do art for me, namely making up the costs by allowing the work to be printed and sold by the artist.

Actually, I was thinking along the lines of adding to your portfolio being a reason to write more.  What about Ilene's coming-of-age ceremony?  How about putting Amy and friends in different scenarios and genres?  Such as how would they react in a Western?  A medieval fantasy?  A space opera?  Basically, the idea is to give a commissioner a wide range of stories to look over as they decide whether to give you a try as well as to keep up enough momentum to keep your creative gears greased.

When it comes to alternative payment methods, don't forget that some people (like me) don't have PayPal.  Were I to commission you, I would offer payment via money order.  (A personal check would also be a viable alternative although you would have to let it sit in the bank for a week to make sure it clears.)  Given a choice between getting PayPal and not commissioning you, I'm afraid the latter would be the one I'd have to choose.

Also, be sure to draw up a contract before taking up any commissions, in order to protect you and your clients just in case.

Lastly, take my advice with a grain of salt.  I've never commissioned anyone nor have I yet solicited commissions.  You'd probably be better off asking the advice of someone who has.

Let's see.... Stories I've written in various genres:
A Western:
[Short story - humour] Croutons... by dmfalk
Don't let the "kingdom" part fool you- The scene was supposed to have a Western feel! :)
A Medieval fantasy:
Story: Portals & Friends by dmfalk
(Features Amy in a Medieval scenario...)
A space opera:

A castaway/life-in-paradise story:

Hmmm, what else could I do...

(I know you're still hinting at Ilene's coming-of-age story-- I still plan on doing that, as well as something about the one legendary lepti of Ilene's age, the closest the leptis had to a Christ-like figure....)

Addressed elsewhere. I prefer PayPal, obviously, but if some alternative is offered and arranged for, I'm open to it.

*nod* I prefer transparency... I've had...issues...with some artists who weren't.

If you decide you want to give me a shot, let me know-- True, you're a capable writer in your own right, but even I, as a writer, am happy getting stories from other fellow writers... :)

" Hmmm, what else could I do...

War story, detective fiction, historical fiction, alternate history, steam- or cyberpunk, comedy, myth and legend, satire, coming-of-age story, dime novel adventure, Lovecraftian, and any mixture that tickles your fancy.  Giant robots!  Kaiju!  Lab mice performing hideous experiments on humanity!  Superheros!

As an example, your dimension-hopping scenario introduced in
Story: Portals & Friends by dmfalk
would be a good way to explore these genres, as Amy hops from world to world.  She knows she'll get home, but it's a long "walk" through a lot of strange neighborhoods to get there.

" (I know you're still hinting at Ilene's coming-of-age story-- I still plan on doing that, as well as something about the one legendary lepti of Ilene's age, the closest the leptis had to a Christ-like figure....)

I look forward to them, for the culture-exploring aspect if nothing else. :)

Believe me, I do appreciate it. :)

Doesn't hurt to double check, though. :p

I think getting stories from other writers is useful as well as entertaining, because it can give you a chance to see your own scenarios and preferences from a different viewpoint.

I've done comedy, satire and a (clean) coming-of-age story, already... I've had at least one alternate-history story in mind, mentioned below....

I've been considering a story of Amy going back in time to see the two 1939 World's Fairs (SF & NYC), thinking it's all a dream, until she receives a package delivered by courier the morning after... :) I should do it-- The '39 World's Fairs have always been a particular interest of mine, and it would be a good vehicle for such... :)

Got some interesting ideas in mind-- They'll eventually get written, so stay tuned... :)

Indeed. Plus, it gives a certain writer a chance to get out of his own funk... :P
