a decision

by
I feel rather bad for taking so long on comishes. Just so there's no misunderstanding here, I don't get any enjoyment out of owing people things. In fact, it's something I really dislike. So I've decided to never have a commission list again. What this means is, when I do take commissions, they will be one at a time and will be something I'm able to finish in one day.  I'll probably do stream comishes, or if I don't feel like dealing with people I'll make a journal here about being open for a comish.

I don't like pressure, I don't like people getting pissed at me, and I don't want that being any part of what I do.  I do this because it brings me enjoyment, and I also care about how it looks, it's art, ya know?

Anyway, I'm working on that Koda picture, I'll post an update on it soon.

I think you could benefit from opening 1 commission slot at a time and having people bid on it. Or maybe open one slot and have people PM your idea and you choose which one you wanna do.

Hmm. I dunno if I like the idea of bidding too much. If it was something like a real life painting, yeah I'd put that up for auction. Choosing an idea sounds nice, definitely more freedom in that. Hehe, that would certainly cause people to think more about what would hook me.

That has always been something that has scared me about potentially opening for commissions (not that anyone would take me up anyway, but still...)

Me too. It actually caused me a ton of anxiety once, but nobody was actually pissed at me at the time. I've had two or three people get ultra impatient and ask for their money back though. I don't argue and just give it back. More often than not it's worth it just to get rid of the stress bring. But most of the people I've done comishes for have been easy going and don't pester me.  I think doing a sketch for someone while streaming is easier than doing a big color painting and hoping the feedback will be good when you post it or having to deal with "is it done yet?" constantly.

I can understand that. All I've ever done is trades, which I find works quite nicely actually. But yeah, one comish at a time seems the best way to go, or maybe no more than like 3.

Yeah, totally. XD

I hope I haven't come off as being impatient or such in the past. I think I haven't but I can't be sure. ^^;

FWIW, I'm still committed to commissioning you for the other 4 pics in the series, spare money permitting.~

Yeah, I really dig your designs of Tommy and Peter for sure.
Oh, and I'm glad you remember the sketch. That's gonna be fun, too.

I'm cool with this, but I do hope you don't limit it to just sketches since I'm a pretty big fan of your colored works. :>

hehe i'd almost forgot about that :p *is in no rush for it tho*

Well looq I hope you find a better way of taking commissions to keep your stress levels down! i'd rather see awesome occasional art from you than have you all loaded down with stress to finish things. *hugs tight*

Don't worry ^^ I didn't forget about you guys. I still have my comish list, I didn't trash it hehe. I'm steadily working on the koda pic now, then there will be two others, then the orgy :P

Ok then, only reason I bothered stating is because I had my other folks waiting too.  I can't speak for them in saying its ok to take your time.  I personally don't care but I don't want a bad rep because I want to do a lot more of these with different artist in the future.

Oh wait I forgot :p hahaha

Well, maybe it is because I've just made trades and accepted requests so far but no one ever was abusive with me or pestered me about unfinished/owing works, it was the opposite, they were all very patient and respectful, even with me postponing their requests for many weeks, and the to-do list was really outrageous big but I've managed to almost finish it (to speak the truth there is just 1 and 1/2 works left :D)

But making this teached me to never accept more work than I can do,but unfotunately I the kind of guy ho,even not wanting, ends up accepting anyway because I don't like seeing people upset with me...  .-.    But I need to change this before I end up burying myself on my own work again.

Yeah, I stopped commissions myself because of that. I don't like making people wait, particularly when they like to pay up-front and then I have that knowledge of their money over my head which makes me feel pressured and in turn unable to draw very well. I personally work better under no limitations in terms of time because my inspiration comes and goes, so when I try and force myself to draw anyway for the sake of a very timely commission, I end up drawing like hell or not at my best and it discourages me. Definitely not a bad idea to take it one at a time, that's for sure. And occasional sketching streams would probably give you more fun out of it since it'd be less work in the long run and therefore a nice, laid-back drawing atmosphere to let your creativity flourish.
