At Your Service [MLP FiM Spoilers]

by
I think this is the first review I've posted before the episode runs.

Great episode!  It's a standard sitcom plot but they've made them special before.  The Ticket Master is a standard plot too and it's awesome.

Spike is awesome and he's such a little cutie.  There's so much great Spike in this episode.  *squee*  Applejack is totally badass but she's no actress.  Rarity was awesome.  Twilight is totally clueless, which was perfect.  Pinkie is Pinkie, with or without a mustache.

There are some questions.

To what extent are timberwolves alive?  Do they actually need to breathe or eat living creatures?  They're animated but they're not made of meat.  Why would they be interested in eating meat creatures?  That's probably why they have bad squirrel breath anyway.  At least they reanimate after being smashed to pieces.  But what if you separate the pieces and keep them apart?  Would you end up with pieces of living timberwolf or would they keep dying?  The 3D models for them were nicely done.

Why would you need strings on a marionette if you're telekinetic?  I have an answer to that one.  To hide the glow!

Well, whether or not they need to breathe, some kind of gas of some form or another is coming out of them, hence, they have "breath". And whether it's an inhale/exhale deal or just expelling a gas like carbon monoxide from a car's tailpipe,it's clear it's a vital function. I think the bigger question is,why didn't Spike just burn the obviously wooden enemies to ash?

Maybe Spike burning them would send them to Princess Celestia?

Celestia: Oh hey, a letter from Twil-OH SHIT!

Nah,he can use it to burn. Remember the box o' popcorn on the train in "Over a Barrel"?

Just a little plot hole.  He may have been able to set the wolves' breath on fire if it's methane from decomposing organic matter.  AJ used Spike to start the fires for the apple fritters in the previous episode too.

Maybe it only sends stuff that gets burnt up completely?

Maybe that's some function the timber wolves serve in Everfree. They hunt prey and carry it around like a walking compost pile then regurgitate the stuff as fertilizer for the trees so they're a kind of wild forest spirit. It'd also explain why clogging the air hole causes them to explode as the build up of gas seeks release. And if Zecora can commune with these spirits,it'd explain why they don't bother her.

My assumption is that, in his panic, his capicity to burn them slipped his mind.

Maybe so.  I think his ability to cook also slipped his mind in this episode.

I think it was his enthusiasm that did that. He was kind of bouncing around and all. And it'd explain why he can cook in other episodes but burned the pie in this one.

*snaps fingers* I got it! Poltergeists. They posess pieces of wood so they can grab, pin, bite, body check, etc.. And they shape them like wolves to be more intimidating.
