Currently visiting the US

Philladelphia to be more precise.
as such I might not be drawing that much since I can only do it on my shitty labtop.
Im going to take a look at New York next week, try out some Sushi restaurants, and generally act like a tourist.
The biggest impact the country had on me so far is all the damn squirrels running around in the streets. I have seen maybe 10 squirrels in my lifetime, and now im up to 100+

Food is also pretty cheap here, tho I cant say how healthy it is (4$ for a huge chinese chicken rice menu)
and the whole mentality is also different, in that people will randomly start talking to you on the streets, gotta get used to that.

As for my Active viewers journal thx a ton everybody that commented ^^ makes me feel more appreciated, and I also got a few ideas while looking through the comments.

It's kinda reassuring that Philladelphia's folks are that warm. It's one city I plan to visit sometime later ^^

I suspect there's a reason Anthrocon's ended up in Philadelphia - the people there are just so freaking lovely, which is really rare for a city, at least in my experience. The place really lives up to its name.

As an immigrant, I find America's kinda like Europe, with the states like countries: each one has a radically different flavor. So some places, people chat to you randomly; others, they ignore you politely; others are openly hostile to outsiders until you become accepted.

when is anthrocon usually?
Catwheezle

Middle of summer: June-July.  (which means you're gonna have to stay there a LONG time to catch it. But that's worth it, right?)

Actually, after a short stay in Philadelphia, AC has moved 350 miles West to Pittsburgh, PA, where it's been since 2007.  As a local, I'm impressed with the reception it received and the continued support over the years.

Well, damn, I was wrong. As usual. Paint me a foreigner who doesn't know the difference between to P-* cities, then.

Went to Anthrocon in 2009, thought all the people and all the businesses around that area were freaking wonderful.

XD

I'll forgive you, but many in The 'Burgh, and Philly for that matter, would give you a much harder time.  There's more than a small rivalry between the two cities, but it's a friendly one!

It was actually great that AC moved to Pittsburgh for many reasons.  More room, for one; imagine the Dealer's Room, Artist Alley and both art rooms separated into four different standard-sized conference rooms!  Space was...at a premium.

The second BIG one is that in Philly, the con was way out on the periphery of the city, with nothing really close by besides a Friday's and an Appleby's.  In The 'Burgh, as you noted, it's right downtown and in the middle of everything!

Curious to say, that's exactly the travel plan: Philadelphia-Pittsburgh-Philadelphia. Going to visit a friend to her house and then kidnap her go with her to Anthrocon, then escort her back home, like a true gentlemon :3

Cool!  Do you plan on driving?  Do yourself the favor of leaving a few extra hours so that you can go across US30 and/or 22 instead of The Turnpike.  I70/76 across PA is one of the most mind-numbingly boring drives you'll ever take :\
RuscoIstar
5 years, 11 months ago
I think she would know, because I don't (I'm not from the US as well). And I guess that's the plan... but I doubt she will let me touch her car X3; (Also, no USA license ^^; )

I'm curious now, what exactly makes that road so boring? Is it a straight line with a dull landscape?
esanhusky
5 years, 11 months ago
For most of it, yes.  Just a long, dual ribbon of grey stretching over the horizon.  It actually has some character going over the Appalachian and Laural Mountains, but the side roads have SO much more!

The problem is, a lot of Americans seem to think that the only way to get from Point A to Point B by car is by the Interstate, and where it is faster, there is really nothing to see.  The PA Turnpike is the epitome of this, as it was specifically designed to go through as little as possible in it's path across the state.

It's a shame, because PA is really one of the most beautiful and diverse states in The  Union.  It's called "The Keystone State," because especially in the Colonial years, but even today we're the center of everything, therefore it's hard to talk about any period of US history and not include PA.

Philadelphia was the first US capitol, and still owns many historical landmarks, Scranton, PA is home to a large steam train museum that still operates recreational day rides, Gettysburg, PA was the site of one of the most important battles of The Civil War, Pittsburgh grew from Ft. Pitt, one of the key frontier outposts, and remained an important force in The Industrial Revolution; every small town you drive through in Pennsylvania has it's own story and it's own character, some of them dating back to the earliest times in our country's existence, and The Turnpike avoids them all, except Philly and Harrisburg (the state's capitol).

Also, I like to drive, so superhighways are the bane of my existence :)
RuscoIstar

I'm not that thrilled about driving, being from a big city the experience always means stress for me >_>
But I can see how boring it must be to just go in a straight highway with no thrill on sight, just an endless horizon.

Well, it's great to know that after AC I have 2 days to do some sightseeing across the beautiful Philly. Thank you for this info ^^

Here you are, visiting the U.S., while my husband and I are trying to figure out what to pack for our flight out to Germany.

Well, greasy cheep food aside, at least you're having a good time. That's all that really matters. ^^

If I didn't have my new dog to take care of, I'd ask to try to coordinate a day trip to New York together.  Dahn.  XP

Also, American food is a LOT less healthy than what yur probably used to in Denmark.  :p

RedReynart
5 years, 11 months ago
O.o I didn't know you were from Denmark >.> So why again are you in America? I can see it if you wanted to make yourself over to something like Anthocon or something. But that is if it is only for entertainment. If your here on personal reasons well that is understandable. Otherwise XD I would be wondering why you chose such a odd time to visit...

If you are in the North East then you would notice allot of folks trying to clean up after being hit by Hurricane Sandy. Though that should be nearly all cleaned up by now.

If you are in the south then you would notice allot of Folks still not cleaning up after being hit by Hurricane Katrina. And if you are in the plains you wouldn't notice anything but farm land. If you are in California you would notice allot of Mexicans, hippies and prius drivers <.< Florida is just the California of the east side.

XD So yeah welcome to the backward, odd ball, epedemicly obease, freeloading, selfloathing, police nation of the world. ^^ Enjoy your stay lol.

im in philladelphia as stated above. So I'm seeing alot of different coloured people white/black/brown/yellow they all there. and im visiting a friend.
RedReynart
5 years, 11 months ago
Long way to go to visit a friend. I really envy that I do. I wish quite bad I could do the same with many of my friends who I have spoke with over the years but never really had a chance to meet in real. Except one friend O.o and that was really unexpected...

And yeah Phily XD Though you may decide to travel around, as you said New York. Well MR Tourist.. Be shure to check out the New York Red Hots, and of course the Philidelpha Cheese Steak Sandwhich. :P Really live the tourist life lol.

Also Washington DC should be beween you and York. So if you want to visit there as well XD put that on your list.

Just don't wear brightly colored shirts with big hats and a camera around your neck. XD You want to be a tourist, not a sterotypical tourist lol.
