with 7 hours to go there ultimate, unimaginable goal of 6 million for the space we are all hoping for is an attainable possibility, as it currently stands they have enough funding to make the game they always wanted to, with in reason. At the 6 million make the game will launch with one HUNDRED star systems in addition to a full orchestrated score.
I am trying so hard not to get over hyped for this but the premisses there making are so attainable the system there using already supports everything from A wide, living , breathing cosmos to planetary ground based combat. It's already possible to fight on foot inside ships and space stations.
They wont have planet exploration at launch but it's something they are looking into, the lead game designer says if he does it he wants it done RIGHT so it's not gonna be there at launch but it's definitely on the table.
it support privite servers, the game world is so expressive you can form your own pirate fleet, your own trade federation, even a mercenary paramilitary organization. Carve out your own slice of the cosmos if you like, explore unknown star systums and have the jump point named after you.
Earn or steal one of those powerfull star cruisers and make it a center point in a guild fleet, or manage to capture one of the titanic Bengal carriers. A veritable MACROSS Sized vessel, If the cruisers are the enterprise or a star destroyer, then the Bengal is a death star XD

an orchestrated score alone can cost upwards of 1 mil to produce for about 40-60 hours of music. Then theirs the production costs, the cost of paying the dev teams sallery, over a 2 year development project.
back in 1990 when wing commander came out that game cost about 2-3 million to develop. Thats why so many triple A games end up being less then they could be, producers have to invest absurd amounts of capital to make it possible for a Developer to even make the game so they impose restrictions and limitations on design to help ensure that it turns a profit even a small one.
crowd funding skips the producer, they have design goals that expand realistically based on the budget they currently have.
the more money they have when the drive is over, the more game we get.
