Picky Eaters

Are you a picky eater?  Now when I say picky, I don't mean there's a few foods that you don't care for.  We all have those, no one is expected to like everything.  I mean, picky in a way that you've eliminated whole food groups.  I think I can honestly sit here and say that I know more adult picky eater then kids.  Full grown adults that refuse... REFUSE to eat any fruit and veggies.  I always ask why, and I generally get told... I just don't like them.  Seriously?  My kids know about eating healthy and eat a whole vast assortment of fruits and vegetables, so how did these people (pretty much all male) get to this point in their life refusing to eat a whole food group?

Picky eaters are a peeve of mine.  I feel like they're acting like children (sorry if I'm stepping on toes here).  I'm reminded of a show called Eataholics (Freaky Eaters).  It deals with people that have extreme food aversion and helps them conquer these issues.  It's a great show and you feel really happy for the people by the end of the episode because they're totally working towards personal goal.  Eating a proper meal with their family.

I'm not a picky eater.  I have foods that I don't care for.  Creamed corn, brussels sprouts, shrimp... but I don't drop food groups.  I ask questions to try and understand this level food aversion, but I don't think I ever will.  I'd love to talk some sense in to these people (friends and family) to try and make them understand the importance of eating properly.  I don't think that will happen ether and If I'm not careful I'll just push them away.

I have a friend who is generally disenchanted with meats. Not sure why.

Apparently, fruit is also too sweet. Who goes through their entire life eating nothing but vegetables?! (The Chinese, apparently!)

I tend not to like fish. I really like clam chowder though

I'm not picky, but I know some who are. Once I treated my friend to a Subway sub and literally all he got was the bread, meat and some mayo. D= Waste of money! >_<

I myself am kinda picky, I don't like to eat most vegetables, As I tend to go for the bland tasteless ones, Corn, Potatoes, Lettuce, Green Beans, and Carrots. That's about it. I don't really like and really don't want to eat the rest.

I <3 my veggies but I'm not a big fan of most seafood. And I have problems eating most citrus (it doesn't like to stay down :P ) but I can drink the juice.

If I can eat it before it tries to crawl off my plate it's mine.

I have tummy issues which limit some of the food I can eat. Doesnt usually stop me though. As for fruits and such I had bad experiences with them the girst time I tried them, call it false advertising where sweetened foods with strawberry flavors turned out to be lies to the actual raste of the fruit itself. Same with pineapple and so on, though I honestly hate the taste of pinapple completely, even mixed on pizza. Its just too powerful. I hate anything cooked in a croc-pot/slow cooker due to the smell. So I have reasons, but theyre not good.

I'll give you an excuse as to why I can't eat most veggies that's one better than the "I just don't like them" classic:  The taste buds on my tongue that detect bitter flavors are so sensitive that most bitter foods set off my gag reflex.  It's kind of hard to "choke down" a food that I don't like when everything I'd already eaten is on it's way back up.  Some foods can be prepared certain ways and that dulls it down.  Others can be combined with other strong flavors (read: spicy).  But most of the time, I go into dry, and sometimes wet heaves eating most vegetables.

Used to think I had a shellfish allergy because I'd get sick after eating shrimp.  Turns out the places I'd be eating said shrimp at were frying and serving nearly whole shrimp..as in not de-veined.  It was probably the shrimp's poo-tract that was making me ill.

And I can't drink or eat 99% of "sugar-free" foods because I can taste aspartame, and it tastes like licking both contacts on a 9-volt battery..  Seriously, you could blindfold me and feed me different sweeteners on the end of a spoon, and I'd be able to tell you the different types of sugar without fail.  From bleached white, to raw, to corn syrup, to artificial.

I'm also one of the only people I know who likes raw rhubarb without burying it in sugar first..

There are things I don't like, but I'm always up for trying something new as long as it's not spicy. I don't feel that makes me picky.

Some people with Sensory Processing Disorder have severe difficulty eating some foods. I can't eat foods like fish or spinach without choking and gagging through the whole thing. A cheap chicken wing with lots of fat, skin and cartilage will make me gag until I almost throw up.

my nephew is a picky eater and I'm breaking him of that habit, getting him to try new things is hit and miss, I'll admit, but you'll be better off rounded in your meal.  I personally am not picky, but if I'm eating the same foods over and over again, I get worn out of them.  picky eaters end up doing one thing with me... STARVING!

I don't have any entire food group I won't eat.  But I tend to avoid shellfish, shrimp and that sort of thing.  And I generally don't eat pork, I never really developed a taste for it.  There are certain foods I dislike, but over all I'm not that picky.   I don't drink beer because I hate hops, and I usually avoid food and drink that tastes particularly bitter, like coffee.  I love it loaded with sugar and creamer, but I can't drink it any other way.
