Out with a Bang (the Death of an MMO)

Death Wing Should have taken a lesson from this guy!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39j5v8jlndM&feature...

And so ends one of the most promising....and disappointing MMO experiences of my life.

Thankfully a Realm Reborn holds allot of promises and 1 will be allowed to participate in the beta as well as get a free month once it actually launches.

Theres some back story to this but it;'s not all that easy to get DX so i'll give you a  rundown.

basically the Garlean Empire, thats the guys is the creepy black armor with the megitek weapons and the gunblades. They figured out how to activate the Meteor Project, an Ancient Weapon that basically is Designed as a doomsday device.

The idea being if you can destroy the world whenever you want, every nation will bow to you.

Unfortunately, this is a really fucking bad idea so as you can imagine the ancients sealed the weapon so nobody would use it.

Unfortunately the leader of the Garlean Military forces basically goes nuts, takes over, brainwashes the masses with dark magic and figures out how to Activate Dalamud the Red Moon, AKA Meteor.

Meteor comes down, heros fight the garleans, world comes to an end and the old man uses the last of his power to scent the people he can Outside the time stream because no place on the planet is safe from the blast.

will ave to stay tooned to see what comes next. lets hope they can pull it off this time. A Realm Reborn makes the end of my nearly endless patients with this company.

so 14 has finally been ended? I heard it had a lot of problems, and looks like they're making a new one to fix them, I guess that's what you gotta do when things are that bad. Much as I'd love to play a FF MMO, I'm too deep into world of warcraft and couldn't afford a second subscription based one, hell I even gave up on my free to play one, Eden Eternal.  I also hear that FF MMO's are super grindy, and takes forever to level and leveling can get rather complicated. I haven't actually played a FF game since 4 DS, that was hard as balls, never did beat the last boss either, got to him, out of sheer stuborness, and never did beat it.  Not counting Crystral Chronicles games, fun as they are, they don't really count if they aren't numbered.  Also, in the middle of play Xenoblade cronicles that's another 100+ hours I don't have for other MMOs.  whel, I'm just rambling, but felt like talking.

Not all MMO's work on subscriptions. Most you just have to buy the game and that's it. It's mostly Blizzard who are such dickheads as to make people buy the game then pay even more money for the ability to play it.

Huh? Only a few, like Guild Wars, follow this model.

Most currently follow the "Free to Play" model where premium stuff costs you money... And then there's the despised kind thats "Free to play, pay to win" where you're basically forced to buy stuff because you can't compete otherwise (which is more expensive than pay to play, sometimes!)

I was completely skipping the F2P P2P-Premium model. Don't know why o.O
I wonder which category RuneScape falls into. Probably the F2P P2P-Premium.

Yeah. It's generally free to play UNTIL you want to break the artificial limits. So it's the F2p w/ premium model.

I really wish the model Guild Wars (buy once, play forever, no premium content buyable) would be used more often... Guild Wars proved it works when done well.

The most outrageous thing for me was when WoW started offering paid extras (like a mount) ON TOP of the monthly cost. It really went downhill in direction of "fucking ripoff" there. And I stopped playing that game before they even introduced that :D

But hey, this thread here made me check out FF14 again. I played it in the beta and it was "okay"... I never got far with it. I wonder if they really cut it with the rebirth and get people satisfied with it.

In RS, if you go so far as getting a completionist trimmed cape, you might as well stop p2p, there's nothing else to do.

Actually, this is them ending the current iteration of 14 before they re-release as 'A Realm Reborn'. The alpha for that should be starting soonish, and with the intent of there not being nearly as many issues.

The Alpha for that started on the 28th.

At least they made it end in the most beautiful way possible - Destroying the planet.

well now. Someone woke up Shinryu and he got to do his job for once.
You weren't kidding about going out with a bang.  Its too bad, i liked that
magitec was back in use. (i did not own this game) But oh well. They really
did a bad job with 14. Hope they do better with 14 the redo.

you and I both, and that was not shinryu it was actualy bahamut.
ScottyKat

Really? that was Bahamut? I figured sence Shinryu was the big " destroyer of worlds"
dragon that he would be doing that. (Dissedia and other FF games have it in his lore)
Bahamut's generally a benevolent being... save for FF9 where he was used like a weapon.
Usually its Tiamat or Shinryu being the big destroyers.. and Tiamat is commonly simply
the "dark dragon" summon  (ff8)

In ff14 Bahamut is the most powerful of the Primals. Primals being Elemental spirit gods or demons wershiped by the beastmen races. They are considered to be at odds with the 12. (the gods worshiped by player races)

The Primals are not necessarily evil but they are chaotic and destructive. There basically the Summons. Shiva, Ifrit, Titan, garuda ect.

The arcanist Class there implementing in 2.0 will eventually become a summoner and be able to channel a tiny portion of there power into avatars.

Linkshells will also be able to summon the Primals themselves, in there full powered versions. That is however much more limited. If a group beats a Primal in battle that group gets a contract with that primal, they may summon them in person one time, at wich point there up for being defeated and summoned again.

Ahh changed the lore i see. Well i can see that working. Still prefer Shinryu as the big destroyer.
But what ever works.
