Basically, it's a videogame about videogames. A business sim that takes place from the 1980's to 2030, it features tens of thousands of real-life videogames, videogame designers, companies, and platforms across the PC and consoles. You can make it rich by producing your own videogames, console and PC platforms, publishing, and more.
The gameplay is engaging and surprisingly in-depth, following real trends and strategies, as well as tactics and trip-ups such as the videogame crash of `83-`84, war, and economic downturn. With several difficulty settings, it can provide a challenge to even the most die-hard sim gamers.
The game itself has a rustic retro feel, complete with midi music and clips of classic videogames from the early days of the gaming industry.
The game is stable, though suffers from a few minor graphical glitches. There's a learning curve, with little to no documentation, but nothing you can't learn quickly by trial and error.
Overall, I give it a 10/10 for business sims- it's my favorite biz sim of all time, and a 6/10 for general game quality. (It mostly could use a better interface and graphical design, as well as a manual).
It retails for € 14.99, which is about $20 USD.
The creator is a one-man team and surprisingly involved with his small community, even going so far as to offer me personal, one-on-one technical support with issues I have with my system (Windows XP-64- Vista and 7 users should have much fewer bugs).
So, thylacine DEMANDS you go pick this up! It's well worth the cost, and amazingly educational and fun.
