More artist stuff

by
I found this book today called Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative. It's essentially a longer explanation of what the author also talks about in his blog.  A short version of the book, compiled from the blog can be found here.

It breaks down like this:
1.steal like an artist
   -nothing is original
-we are shaped and fashioned by what we love
-the artist is a collector, not an indiscriminate hoarder
   -garbage in garbage out
   -find your influence's influence

2.Don’t wait until you know who you are to start making things
  - Making things = Knowing thyself
  - Fake it till you make it

3.Write the book you want to read / Draw what you want to see
-Write what you like, not what you know

4.Use your hands
5.Side projects and hobbies are important
6.Do good work, then put it where people can see it
7.Geography is no longer our master
8.Be nice (the world is a small town)
9.Be boring, it's the only way to get work done

  -eat,sleep,exercise well
  -stay out of debt
  -get a day job
  -get yourself a calendar
-choose your companions well ~ this doesn't just mean your life partner, it's who you
do business with, who you befriend, who you choose to be around.

10.Creativity is subtraction

-it's also what you choose NOT to put in your work.

Haha! Yeah, I thought kind of the same thing when I read the title of it. I can't stand reading books about business and making more money, those would probably function better as kindling for my fire. :P

A lot of stuff in the book is very down to earth and makes a lot of sense. Not to mention the book is pretty cheap itself. I'm thinking I should start making giant posters with words of wisdom for my place XD

Hey Tacki! Thanks! Most of it is from just me trying to dig myself out of an art uhmm "constipation" period. A lot of it was just too good to keep to myself though, it's fun sharing the good stuff with others that might need it too.

As for drawing, you should check out Preston Blair's book on cartoon animation. It's a soft cover and not super expensive or thick. It teaches your construction techniques for building characters. *searches around on youtube* Oh..neat, here's an animated presentation of a lot of the drawings in his book and how they're made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdYM2V4NtvQ
