I has a Weasyl

Kaboop: https://www.weasyl.com/profile/wolfblade

Hit me up so I know who's over there too. Apparently it's two weeks before a new account has invites activated, but I'll be sending some of those out to people when I can.

In the meantime, I think you can still get in by donating.

Or, there's no rush and registration will be totally free and open once the beta period has passed.

Obviously I'm not leaving InkBunny, but I'm thinking about just posting my cub stuff here and the rest on weasyl. I know most of the people who mainly gave IB a chance to follow me have already given up and moved on, so I don't think it'll be much of an issue. Nothing decided yet though, I may even say fuck it and resume posting everywhere else too, I dunno.

Anyway, Weasyl's pretty sweet. Slick design, very visually appealing, everything works smoothly and super fast so far. There's a few gripes about what-goes-where, and I think some changes can be made to be a bit more intuitive, but they do seem to be addressing suggestions so far, so we'll see. It's all about the long-term, and whether a site's initial promise is lived up to over time. You just never know.

Just as long as it's not as bad as freakin' SoFurry.  God, I hate the interface on their site.

I think they updated a little while back. Not sure, hardly go there myself. But when I did, it didn't seem so bad. o.o

Inkbunny is much prettier and very easy to browse on, but it's terrible for posting stories.  SoFurry is a far superior site for writers.  I think they both have strengths and weaknesses.

Weasyl seems less like community-like and more business-like. Very artist focused (from what I saw), so it will be good for artists to use it as a platform for business it seems. I'll probably make an account there when it's open and use it for business only. I certainly have enough social interactions here on IB I really don't need to find more elsewhere. ^_^;

Other than that it seems to be poised to be "the next FA" which is fine. I just hope all the trolls stay on FA, which seems to be happening and not surprisingly so. My prediction is FA will become the furry 4chan or something and will become an even bigger embarrassment to 'the fandom'. But that's only a prediction. [shrugs]

Maybe I'll be more excited about Weasyl after I get to use it. We'll see.
Wolfblade

That's what I'm expecting and hoping for too. Let the people who want furry 4chan have FA and I sincerely wish them all the enjoyment and satisfaction with that site that they could want. And InkBunny made its decision on who they're concerned with appealing to and who they're not, so cubs have a nice big pretty playground of their own now and aren't limited to >just< CubCentral, so there's no need for most of them to bother with Weasyl either.

With any luck, everybody wins.

Well they're not really wanted on Weasyl either, though I understand they're not hateful about it either. Cubs also have SoFurry, but no one ever seems to care about that place for some reason. o_o;

Hmm.. maybe I'll open an account under a new secret name to build art reputation on, 'untarnished' from cub stuff since this world's priorities are so messed up they prioritize fantasy over real life. [shrugs] Oh silly people~

Or, I'll just say fuck it and make Weasyl my non-cub stuff and IB+SF will have everything. If people really have a problem with fantasy characters enough to not want anything to do with me simply because I'm willing to draw/color cub; I really don't need them, nor would I want to service shallow, ignorant people like that anyways.

Yay mini-rant! XD Now I'm off to my dead-end job to get underpaid and overworked. =p

Its a nice site though alittle tough with the closed registration and needing invites. All else aside it looks like a nifty site
Wolfblade

Well that's just for the beta stage. They're still ironing out the kinks. It'll be open free registration eventually.

Tis the hope other wise its kinda hard to want to use a site you can see the smut or even have a watch list XD From the looks of it the invites them selves seem quite limited unless your actually posting XD which then seems slightly odd a site where all the artist can post and view other artist work with no non artist viewing. (ideal set up? XD) just a silly thought

Coming right out and banning cub art from the get-go is a bad sign for me. What exactly is going to make this site different from FA?
Wolfblade
5 years, 10 months ago
If banning cub is a dealbreaker, just stay here. InkBunny is here for the cubs first and foremost, and I expect they'd just shut down entirely before having to ban it. They've stated plainly and respectfully many, many times that it's not a moral or 'ew gross' issue. It is a simple and straightforward matter of legality. InkBunny chose to ban adult human works as the trade-off for being able to allow cub. Weasyl is aiming for a broader audience and not JUST furries, so it wouldn't make sense for them to pick cub at the expense of humans.

As for comparing it to FA, there's just no comparison. FA is a broken ugly messy horribly administrated piece of crap. Weasyl, at the very minimum, looks good and works and is run by people with their heads not up their asses.

I would say at the least, Weasyl has as much potential and probability to be a solid and decent site as InkBunny had when it started. If the deciding factor is cub, then there's no decision to be made, is there?

Well IB went down while I was typing my reply, so let's try this again. -.-

Yep, anti-cub is a dealbreaker for me, so I'm staying here. ^_^ I just want to know why people on IB are flocking to it. I mean every site I've come across that has banned cub art SAYS it's a legality issue. If it really is an issue of legality with human cubs, then why NOT ban only human cubs? A site banning cubs, in my experience, has always been a bad sign, so why is everyone expecting a different result this time? Is the administration just so awesome that they can handle the ban fairly, and deal with unprovoked hatred better than any other site that has employed such a ban?
Wolfblade

SoFurry allows cubs, so the only other relevant site I can think of that banned it is FA.

There's simply no comparing the FA staff to Weasyl's. So yeah, there's no reason to believe Weasyl will handle the situation as horrifically badly as FA did. When I have seen the pro-cub/anti-cub people pop up and argue, the admins there have snuffed it out firmly but fairly. To the "but why u no cub?" people, they reiterate the point that their stance is not a morality issue or ew gross cubs, it's legality. To the "cub is sick and gross and I'm glad they don't allow those freaks" they tell them there's no excuse for being insulting or judging others' interests, and they shut them up too. How it goes in the long run remains to be seen of course, but honestly, it is a complete non-issue unless cubs keep bringing it up. InkBunny is here to serve the cub community first and foremost, and has already established that they will cater to that group even to the point of disregarding anyone else. The cubs don't NEEEEEED to be let into Weasyl, IB was made for them and will remain to be here for them.

I see Weasyl as being the place IB initially claimed it intended to be. Not a competitor to FA, just an alternative. I'm glad weasyl doesn't allow cub because it keeps that community here. Cub will only be an issue on weasyl when the irrational cubs who refuse to understand the point of "it's not ever going to be accepted as perfectly fine and normal across the board" force it to be an issue.

As for doubting the claim of it being a legal issue, it IS an extremely ambiguous point. Nobody will know exactly whether or not the law will count "cubs" as "children" until it actually goes to court. IB was made by cubs for cubs, so of course they're more willing to take that chance and to ignore the concerns of other demographics in favor of keeping the cubs happy. Weasyl isn't even trying to be solely >furry,< so even if it wasn't a legally ambiguous subject, the fact that its presence DOES ward off a lot of people would make it less sensible for them to be overly concerned with making cubs happy when cubs already have a site dedicated to them.

Honestly, I think the people that cub art would ward off aren't worth having around anyway. That's what makes IB so great to me. I favor a more friendly environment over a more expansive one. That being said, if what you say is true about how they're handling it, then so far so good I suppose. You're right, I can't fault them for it if their reasons aren't as hostile as I've seen in the past, not just from FA, but from Fchan as well, and I've not actually seen, but heard things about the VCL. I've just never seen a ban on cubs handled in a mature and fair way.

" Honestly, I think the people that cub art would ward off aren't worth having around anyway.

I hate this attitude.

That attitude is why IB ended up just being the cub site after all, why so many artists just went back to FA, and why you'll see people leaving IB for Weasyl.

There are countless people who don't give two shits whether or not other people are into cubs, they just don't want to be associated with it themselves. InkBunny was dismissed as the pedo site by the haters from the first mention of it, because hey, cubs are making it so obviously it's just a cub site. InkBunny told people they wanted to appeal to all furries, not just cubs, and they told people they'd have filters so anyone who doesn't want to see cub won't have to see it, they can just block it.

When cubs began intentionally refusing to label their shit, some even >saying< that they were doing it specifically to prevent people from being able to block it, and all those people who don't care if others like it, but just don't want to see it everywhere or be associated with it themselves complained 'hey, these filters only work if you make people actually tag their cub work,' the site decided to keep the intentionally disruptive cubs happy over the people just asking for the filters to work the way they were told they would work.

InkBunny decided those people who were only here to begin with because they were actively encouraged to come here weren't worth having around.

To me, I just don't get what is so hard for cubs to understand about the idea that there is a whole lot of space between "openly loves and accepts cubs" and "closed-minded hater who will just cause problems anyway." It is >not normal< to be turned on by cub stuff. That doesn't mean it is evil or bad or people need to be hated for it when it is just a make-believe fantasy interest. But it also doesn't mean people who have the normal reaction of being a little uncomfortable with it are terrible hateful meanies.

I've seen people be as neutral and respectful as possible and still get their shit jumped on by cubs if they say they're just not personally comfortable with it. People being hateful and judgmental and treating the make-believe as being the same as a rl offense, okay sure, those guys are idiots and assholes, fuck 'em. But when someone says "look, I don't think anybody should be judged for their fantasy, but the reality is that they often are, and I just don't want to be associated with this because I'm >not< into it" and still gets flamed and shit on by the cub crowd - when someone just doesn't want to be associated with it and that's all it takes for them to be told they're not worth having around anyway - there's something wrong with that.

And cubs will not EVER get anything even close to tolerance or acceptance in this fandom, or any group of people, when it is the >cubs< that are requiring people to be totally into the same shit before they're even "worth having around."

I doubt you meant the remark quite this way, and my anger about the attitude is not directed at you personally, but I hope you see my point and why that attitude is the biggest obstacle the cub crowd faces right now - NOT haters and outside judgement.

No I didn't mean the remark quite that way, but as far as people not tagging cub art properly, can't you block submissions from specific users here? Yeah I wish they'd tag it properly, but how many artists are actually committing that offense? For that matter, how many people are actually giving people grief over comments about not particularly being into cub art? It's certainly disappointing when someone shows up here, a few people are assholes, and instead of banning those people, they suddenly pull all their art and leave nothing but an angry journal behind. Sorry to pull this old issue back from the grave, so to speak, but no matter where you go, there's going to be some assholes around, and when it seems like the much much larger group of people who accept someone with open arms just the way they are given a "Well, fuck you all!", are we not supposed to be at least a little annoyed by that?

I have one too, but I'm still on a "hmm, should I post something here" phase. haha.

Upon going to the home page, while it's a very efficient site it is rather... bland and unimpressive. Extremely simple, dull neutral colors, linear to the max... It's like they picked two off-colors and tried to fit everything on the page in such a manner as to not have you scroll up and down unless you absolutely need to. Which is nice... just makes the entire site extremely dull, business-like, uncreative (which I hope the irony is not lost on anybody).

It's one of the things I hate about FA. FA has always been dull in design, uncreative, trying to be like DA and failing miserably, as well as being convoluted when it came to navigation. Weasyl is much more simple and intuitive, very easy to use... by why care? IB is easy to use but it's dynamic. I open up IB and I am always impressed with the site, the way navigation works, the way the pages function. The warm colors.

Weasyl is extremely easy to use and extremely efficient.... but it's robotic. Sterile. Makes me think I'm going to a psychologists office instead of an artist workshop. Not exactly something for me to jump out of my seat for and claim it's the best thing since sliced bread.
Wolfblade
5 years, 10 months ago
Doesn't have to be the best thing since sliced bread, and I'm certainly not calling it such. It functions, it serves the purpose it's intended to serve and it does it well. It's not shooting dinosaur lasers everywhere, but it's pleasant enough to look at.

Everybody has different tastes, and a clean and professional look like weasyl has is a big difference from IB's gorgeous backgrounds to choose from. But I saw someone describe the difference as walking into a toned-down but still stylish new club vs walking into a very nicely painted nursery - without meaning it as a jibe, just as a description of the differing aesthetics. And I think it's an apt description.
