I Am Not An Abomination

I am Nephilim.  The word “Nephilim” originally meant “groundwalking ones,” as my species has small wings that are too small to carry us aloft, though we can glide with them for short distances if need be.  The meaning has since been altered to “fallen ones,” in order to give our name a more sinister tone.

The world my people first came into was vastly different than this one.  Our ancestor races were two different species, one a six-limbed Reptilian race and the other a four-limbed human-like species.  Our Reptilian ancestors could fly, and they were quite beautiful to behold.  I don’t have much in the way of memories of them.  What I do know, though, is that they loved our humanlike ancestors immensely, and our births are evidence of the extent to which they loved them.

The humanlike ones were in many ways similar to the human race of today.  In fact, the only real difference I can think of between humans of today and our ancestors is that our ancestors had pointed ears like elves.  For all I know, they very well could have actually been elves.

Our first major enemy was a race of 10-limbed dragons of massive size who called themselves “Seraphim,” which means “The Fiery Ones” in their tongue.  They are gigantic in size, powerful in their emotions, and passionate in their loyalty to the things they are devoted to.  Six of their 10 limbs are wings, the other four are legs.  They are as comfortable in the airless void of outer space as they are in the breathable air of their home planet.  When we defeated them in open battle, we shamed them, yet they didn’t come back for more.  Rather, they took counsel with their wise ones who saw their defeat as a sign from the Creator that their self-appointment as the judges of the worthiness of life to exist was done in arrogance.  They repented of their evil, and never again rose in hostility against a species simply for existing.

We learned early on that our existence, while unusual, was never abominable in the eyes of the Creator.  As the Seraphim learned the hard way, we are just as valid as they are.  We are not “abominations” to the true God.

Nor were the children born to us when many of the Nephilim mated with humans on this Earth.  There never was a “conspiracy” by the so-called “sons of God” to tamper with God’s perfect Creation.  The only conspiracy was the one by which vile doctrines that blame one’s genetic code for the evils of this world were first formed in the minds of those who seek to overthrow the Creator.

All life is his creation, and it is all good.  Evil is a choice we make, when we attempt to dominate the lives of others.  Every evil ever committed has been done in an attempt to impose one’s will on others.  This is not what God intended.  “My body is my property and no one else’s.”  To those who know the Creator, this is a simple statement of reality, and yet to those who seek to dominate, it is always framed as a statement of rebellion, a challenge, or as Yosemite Sam might say, “Them’s Fightin’ Words!”

But the Creator made my body, and he made my desires, my lusts, my loves.  That I live according to them and not according to the whims of others is his design.

I am Nephilim.  I am what I am by God’s design.  I am not an abomination.
