Killer Instinct... by Microsoft!?

Okay, just yesterday, Microsoft renewed the Killer Instinct trademark. Is this a good thing?

Yes, I admit I've never been a huge Xbox fan, but preferences aside we're talking about a classic Rare franchise. Now, those of us who've played the awesome Rare games in decades past will immediately think of games like Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye 007, Battletoads, Diddy Kong Racing, RC Pro Am, and if you lived in the UK, you might remember more games from when they where known as "Ultimate Play the Game" and what they made for the ZX Spectrum.

Now, think of Rare after Microsoft bought them, what good have they made since? Well, they where allowed to develop a few games for Nintendo's handhelds for a few years after. Namely, the GBA ports of the Donkey Kong Country franchise, Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, Banjo-Pilot (which was originally to be Diddy Kong Pilot), It's Mr. Pants (which was originally to be Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers), Sabre Wulf, and even 2 DS games several years after the release of the Xbox 360; Diddy Kong Racing DS (which did not feature Conker or Banjo likely because Microsoft wouldn't let them), and Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise (A game I thought Microsoft would NEVER allow to happen!).

Now, what about Xbox games? Grabbed by the Ghoulies? I forgot that game existed until I looked up Rare's game history. Conker: Live & Reloaded? Well, it was supposed to be "Live & Uncut", meaning that it would not be censored from the N64 original, but instead it was MORE censored! Plus, the fact you can't play original Xbox games online anymore kills the "Live" part as well. Perfect Dark Zero? I didn't hear much good about it. Maybe one of you did? Well, I played the original and liked it, but that's all I can say. I can't judge a game I've never played. Same with Kameo. I might've played it if it ended up seeing release on the Gamecube, but that never happened. What about Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts? I love the original, but to me, this seemed like a game that Banjo and Kazooie stared in rather than a Banjo-Kazooie game, but that's purely based on video I saw, so again, not a fair judgement. Kenect Sports? I head it was good. Any fans out there?

Rare's definitely not the same anymore, that's for sure. And though they did a few good things lately, I just can't help but wonder if an Xbox version of Killer Instinct end up like Conker, Banjo, or PD. I don't know, maybe I'm letting my preferences get in the way again. Maybe I just prefer oldschool Rareware and the classic Donkey Kong Country series.

...Now I feel old all of the sudden. =3=

Surprisingly, they're not. They're pretty much only known now as the company that gave Microsoft Mii rip-offs (with stuff you must BUY!) and Kinect, which is more or less a 3D version of the PlayStation Eye/Eye Toy.

I wanna go back to when they made Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie! :3
