If not for the FA thing I probably would've journaled this anyway.
I had dinner at a great local Chinese restaurant. Not a fancy place but the good kind that's in a funky plaza off the main street with faded signs showing the dishes they served back in the days when it was called a 'chop house' and mobsters got rubbed out there. Well, maybe in the 80s anyway.
There's this guy who hangs out in local restaurants and such places and has political arguments with people. He's always on the most extreme right wing and has one of those faces that makes people want to punch him. There's a local history teacher who did once and got away with it when the police showed up. Tonight he earned it. He was talking with the owner, whose younger son just started at SUNY Binghamton. He seemed to know them, but then he's one of those nosy asshats who poke into everyone's business. The older son who is out of school was there eating (they eat their own food). When she told him the son going to school was on full tuition the guy didn't believe it and then bitched about how his tax dollars were sending the kid to school.
He was also yelling at the staff every time he heard them talking, telling them, "This is the United States of America, speak English!" He called the manager Charlie Chan and the older son 'Number One Son.' The guy was just unbelievably belligerent. Yet they didn't throw him out. I was done eating in and got the hell out of there. I'd heard his brand of right-wing crazy before but hadn't heard him being such an asshat before. Amazingly they served him and he left on his own, not in police custody. That's what I'd have done if I were in charge there. I saw him get into his shiny Buick Enclave and drive off with a one-person bag of food. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some special sauce in there.
It occurs to me that he's always alone. Who could stand him? Most of the people I see him talking to are homeless or nearly so. He's really sad and disgusting. At least he wasn't carrying a gun like the guy I mentioned in a previous journal who was intimidating hispanic people in another restaurant. He was just carrying a really loud mouth. It seems asshats are everywhere.
