IB Downloader App: Info

Aww yeah! So in light of the recent issues with ArtHawk I was inspired to actually sit down and write an app that downloads a user's entire gallery...

This is the results. That was done on Looq's gallery in case you're wondering who actually has that much posted to download XD

Took about 40mins to download 1295 files (~820MB), with 6 asynchronous connections. (This limit of course is done to abide by IB policy and not try to flood the server 'n such.)

I'm currently working on adding more features to it, as right now it's only setup to download a user's gallery. In future versions it will download search results (which actually already works, just isn't implemented), as well as maybe downloading new submissions, etc.

If you have any ideas, or wish to be a tester, or just interested in the final product please let me know. I'll be posting a link where you can grab it later when it's ready for such things. Testers will probably get a copy sooner, so I can check for bugs 'n such before letting the public use it.

That's all for now!

I will be posting a journal later with details on where to get it. Unless you wish to be a beta tester. :3

Mobile inkbunny app o.O?

Hmm, I've never tried to write a mobile app... Also I don't currently own any mobile devices, so I wouldn't be able to test it XD

That's not exactly true, at least with Android.  You can download a copy of the SDK or even something like Bluestacks, which emulates an Android tablet client on Windows, and develop for Android that way without needing a physical Android device... although an actual Android device would work a lot better, especially a "development" device like a Nexus or the Motorola Xoom.

I don't actually like to develop that way, since it's never as accurate as the real thing. Also without owning a mobile device I'm very limited on my knowledge of how they work, or how I should even go about things on there. This app is written with .NET, so if android allows that I might be able to port it over, but I have no clue how easy it would be.

Android is java based and works very much like a Linux distribution, so I doubt your .NET code would port well.  Now, if it was C, that might be easier to port.

Fair warning though.  Programming is not my cup of geekery.

Question though, is this capable of pulling submission information (like tags, stats and description) and comments?  If so, that would be 50x the awesome.

Depends what you want to do. At current, it does not pull that information. It's simply a tool for download content from a submission, not compiling information. I'm not sure what I would do with the information once it's gathered. XD

You can't pull comments through the API that I know of, just the number of comments on a post. Stuff like keywords can be gathered, but once again, I have no clue what I would want them for. Anyways, if you look at the IB API it lists everything that can be returned from a type of query. Primarily it would be api_search or api_submission. Here.

I have been looking for a gallery downloader for inkbunny for like forever! I would so be interested in this. And it would save me so much time o.o I'd love to be a beta tester.
Would it be possible to write a feature whereby it can download all new submissions? Like y'know when an artist you watch posts a new picture, you get a submission notification, could this be able to download all of those in the notifications? I have like 8035 new submissions and I'd rather not go through them by hand xD

Yes, that is one of the features I'm working on adding to it. When it's ready for testing I'll let you know where to get a copy of it. :3

Just be prepared, 8k pics will take a while to download. XD
