Join.Me totally sucks now

Count me on the band wagon that's starting to get fed up with join.me now. It seems now every time I use to stream my screen, it crashes my computer. I'm getting tired of losing my progress while working I forgot to save every five minutes. Anyone find any solutions? I'm running XP currently. I may consider looking into some other streaming options.

Not sure I can afford the monthly fee at this time, I would have the start doing commission streams I think if went with that option.

Yes.  I remember seeing a solution posted earlier that will allow you to use an older version of the join.me broadcaster without it (hopefully) updating itself.

For XP, look in (install drive):\Documents and Settings\(your user name)\Application Data\Local and find a join.me.######## folder.
For Vista/7, look in (install drive):\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Local and find a join.me.########## folder.

I'm going off of memory for XP.  If that path is not quite correct, please correct me.

This may only be a temporary fix though. They will probably start to disable older clients or force them to update if they find that a portion of their userbase is not upgrading.
The crashing problem will most likely be fixed soon, but I suspect that we may see increasing limitations on the free version. They're clearly trying harder to push people over to their paid service now.

I don't necessarily blame them trying push their paid version, though I wished they tested their update more.

Does anyone know any other free options for streaming, or at very least relativity cheap?

Livestream is free with a 500kb/sec limit, but I haven't felt any real limitations on it.  While they like to advertise their Procaster and some people are content with it, I much prefer XSplit, which is another streaming program you can get for free, but it can stream to Livestream and a few other sites.  It also has limitations, but it looks like they only go as far as audio quality.  You can still stream at maximum video quality if you're just drawing, too.
And in case you need a reference on OS, I'm also on XP 32-bit.

Thanks for the advise, I seen several people use Livestream already so may give that one a try.

Login and go to https://secure.livestream.com/myaccount/channels.  Set up a channel there, then I would recommend registering on http://www.xsplit.com/ and downloading XSplit.  Alternatively, you can do what most people do and download Livestream's Procaster here: http://new.livestream.com/broadcast-live/encoder

If you choose to use XSplit, you will have a lot more options to set up, but it'll be a little more complicated.  There's a "channels" menu where you'll have to enter your Livestream account info to set up streaming to the channel.  Last I knew there's also a bug where your video won't appear when you first start broadcasting from XSplit; you'll have to check and uncheck the screen area's visibility.

Let me know if there's anything else you get stuck on, but I'll be out of town this week, so I might be slow to get back to you, unfortunately.

And yeah, I can see why you couldn't figure it out.  They've practically hidden the free channel stuff with all their "new" stuff.

:( That sucks. Join.me  is about the only thing that my normal internet works with. Livestream gets the ads messed up and such.

sorry, but until they fix the bugs, I can't really afford my computer crashing every time I use the program, not mention losing my progress every time it does.

I find jon.me is a laggy crap bucket most of the time. Hard to tell whats going on unless the artist is moving slowly.
