Serious internet issues

by
For over a year now I have been having problems with my Internet Connection, at first we thought it was our wireless box, but after purchasing a new one we have discovered that is not the case. The ISP says there is nothing wrong on their end and we even bought a new toy (the little box that hooks up to the wireless box that we also replaced, I can't remember the actual name of this stuff right now for some reason...) from them to replace the old one because they said it might be the cause of the problems we were experiencing. Well it was all crock and bull. In fact these last few days have been even worse with the internet only connecting once every few hours and then when it does finally connect it is only for a few moments at a time fading in and out of connectivity until it finally just drops the connection as a whole. Truly frustrating.

Do you have cable internet?

The biggest problem I had with our cable here was actually a splitter.  It caused sixteen different problems, a lot of them in part because it was outside, right where the cable attached to the house (We have overhead utilities at that place).

If you have a cable splitter outside, replace it.  That might fix all of your problems.

is it more than one device that tries to connect?  Could be your wireless card itself in your computer going

is it multiple devices? if so, did you install anything new in your house when it started? If not, is there any neighbors who may have?

if you have a router, unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and try.  Load it's diagnostic page to see if it says anything.

if your computer has trouble but nothing else, you may try backing up your data and re-installing windows/mac/linux.  You could download a live CD of linux at a friend's place to see if that is a problem without reinstalling.  Boot to that, if it works without much problem then it's your OS.

We have multiple choices to connect to on a list (some neighbors and such) but my wireless card isn't trying to connect to any but the one I have set for it to connect to.

Tried the unplug thing, sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't.

My computer has the hardest time connecting because we have a cinder block house and I live in a camper about 10 feet away from the outside wall meaning the signal has to work harder to get to me, but still things only seem to have gotten worse these last couple weeks, and especially these last couple days... That being said, the computers in the house itself are experiencing problems to and their should be no interference blocking them from the router.

if you can, can you connect the dsl cable directly to a computer(or from a modem into a computer) to bypass the router?  Could be your router is failing.  I had to replace ours last year for suddenly bad wireless stability.

We jut replaced the router. That's what we thought was the problem, turns out the computers are connecting to the routers perfectly, its just the internet that isn't connecting. I think its the company, we aren't the only ones in the area with trouble, but we seem to have it the worst from the people I've talked to.
