All about Pets!

by
With our love of animals (thus associating with the furry genre) it's only logical for us to also have pets whom we love and share our homes with. I have had people ask me about my two boys, so I put together two posts over on Tumblr, sharing their photos and amazing stories. Both of my dogs are rescues whom were adopted from foreign countries and who have overcome amazing odds. You can view them here:

http://kannosart.tumblr.com/

I would have loved to post them on IB, but apparently pet photography is not allowed here, unlike the other art sites out there (which is a bummer, because as a photographer, my photos are art too!) so I am sharing them via Tumblr.

How about you, fellow watchers? Do you have pets? If so, I'd love to hear about them! :)

Thank you! A lot of people are put off by Adamsi due to his nervous tic and appearance. When he is excited he 'chews' faster, causing him to foam. People have given me dirty looks, thinking he has rabies (because I would totally casually walk a rabid dog, pfft) or that he has some terrible contagious disease. I have even had someone tell me that I should euthanize him because he's 'creepy'. :/

Personally, I love special needs pets and I adopted both of these dogs because they were different and 'less adoptable'

What ridiculous people... I'm certainly glad he's with you now. The whole "pure breeds" thing and breeding for looks and money needs to stop. Adopting is free and honorable.

He is a rhodesian ridgeback and pit bull mix
And he was 6 /: he had cancer in his rump and we were raising money to fix it but then he started getting really thin and weak so we had to put him down /:

I love Adamsi!
Crazy homeless guy dog sounds like he'd be a wonderful friend to have.
He's very lucky to have you as his advocate.

My cat who just recently lost his battle with some form of highly aggressive skin cancer.

For the first time in my 27 years, I do not have a pet.  It's only been a few days, but it seems like forever now.

Aw, he was very cute! I'm so sorry to hear about his passing. It's never easy to lose a pet. I lost one of my boys years ago to congestive heart failure and it was hard. I, too, spent a period of about 6 months without a dog before I adopted Tai. It just didn't feel right to not hear the pitter-patter of little dog feet.

Your dogs are adorable, they both look so unique :3  The only 2 dogs I've had passed away a long time ago, but they lived happy lives. We asked the real estate not long ago if we could get a dog but still waiting to hear back from them. I'd love to adopt, especially from overseas, though here I think there's some long quarantine times.

And isn't Adamsi large if he's a Sag-e Galleh?
Kannos

It seems that the size of those dogs varies. Most of the ones in the shelters are rather large, 60+ lbs, but Adamsi thankfully is a little smaller than that. When I got him he was 44lbs and rather thin, but now he's filled out to 49.5lbs. He will probably max out at around 50lbs. By comparison, Tai is 31.5lbs. :)  I am glad Adamsi is not larger because for the first 3 weeks that I had him, he refused to walk up or down the stairs at my apartment complex (I live on the second level) so I had to carry him about 3 times per day to go potty.

Since I have never seen his siblings, it is hard to tell if his size is simply genetic variation or if the poor boy is a runt. His facial structure is very odd and he has some issues so he certainly doesn't look well bred, but he's otherwise a normal dog. Before I could put him on phenobarbital for his epilepsy I had to run a full blood panel at work and it came back normal, so runt or not, my boy is healthy at least! Thankfully with my line of study and the internship that I am doing, vet care comes at cost of materials, or even free, so I am able to provide everything my boys need without ever breaking the bank. I do not think I would have been able to rescue special needs/disabled pets were it not for this fact.

Oh.. amazing o: <3
I am sure they love you a lot <3

are they socialized or afraid of other dogs?

Adamsi is very sweet and loves everyone, dog or human alike. He does not get excited when he meets others, so he is very easy to approach since he will not jump up or act crazy (he only does that with me when he knows it's play time). He is still scared of the environment (cars, loud noises, etc) but that is because he lived all his life in a shelter and never experienced these things. He is getting better though, and I think once he learns basic obedience and gains more confidence, he would make a great therapy dog. There's a local hospital that has a program like that and I would love to apply with him and see if we could visit patients who are suffering from brain-related health problems so that he can inspire them and show them that brain damage does not need to be the end of the world for them. :)

As for Tai, he is a little more skittish with both people and dogs. I suspect it is because of what he experienced on the streets of Taiwan. The difference being that, during the critical imprinting phase, Tai was struggling to survive in a land where other strays and humans are 'the enemy' where as Adamsi was in a shelter, being treated for his disease and shown kindness from dogs and humans alike. He is not a bad dog, but I do exercise caution when introducing him to others because I know it can be stressful for him.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier.
But yeah, he looks odd, but still very adorable c: Im sure it would be a lovely job for him to go visit other "handicapped" people..
And is it possible to socialize Tai?

I have my big brat.  https://www.furaffinity.net/view/4236940/  Though I do have other pets too, he's of course my favorite.  Even though he gets into all kinds of trouble I love him to death and he'll actually be turning 8 this coming Sunday.  He's also what I had based my character off of as well.

He's gorgeous! Malamute or Husky? Hard to tell without seeing him in relation to something else for size. I have always loved northern breeds, but due to their high energy levels they don't make good apartment dogs. Congrats on 8 years with your boy! I hope you guys have at least another 8 years together! :)

Hehe oh I know what you mean and he's a husky.  At least that's what he's supposed to be.  I've had several people say and think he's mixed with something else because he's a lot more stocky than most huskies I've seen.  And he's surprisingly not as high strung as others as well.  So luckily it wouldn't be as much of a problem for me anyways if we had to move into a smaller place to live.  As long as I could take him out and walk him when I needed.

We have four - two cats and two dogs. Cocoa, Wynter, Winston, Spooks. Cocoa's the only one that's really "mine" per se.
https://www.furaffinity.net/full/8406493/
Found him at my old work when he was a kitten. Born feral, lost his eye when he was a month or so old. Just recently had it surgically removed. He's a little over a year old. Nervous wreck, but super loving and cuddly.
Wynter, our older cat, just wants to be outside, fed, and asleep. He's simple but grumpy.
Winston's about 7, gshep/doxie/dunno mix, lyme disease, super independent and kinda grumpy.
Spooks isn't even a year old yet, lab/rottie mix, super derpy and friendly but doesn't realize how big he is yet. He loves Cocoa to pieces.
