Financially Screwed for Drawing Cub Art

Hello everyone!

I was recently hit with a chargeback dispute from someone who was a good friend for a while. They were always nice to me and talking to me about work and fun stuff and i thought we were really getting along. then out of nowhere  they filed a claim that i was drawing UA characters. in the claim they slammed me to paypal, calling me a pedophile for drawing cub art, claiming what I was drawing was illegal, and putting my paypal account (and thus my livelihood) at risk.

Their chargeback cost me $448 to refund them. I had to pay them back Immediately and now i have to earn back the savings i needed to hold onto. I had to borrow money from my parents for rent last month, and with this sudden expense I'm really worried about making bills/rent/food/living expenses this month.

My commissions are open to everyone and i want everyone to be happy and healthy. Sorry to have to make a journal asking for help, I don't really know what else to do.

Damn, you're one of the best artists I know. These people should pray I never see them. I hope that my banking problems with paypal will be sorted out soon. Then maybe I can support you too.

This has nothing to do with cub though and everything to do with your poor choice of friends. They surely agreed to no refunds when they ordered the drawing. So you could dispute it with PayPal?

A dispute wouldn't work with how things were, plus what was said was probably going to bite me in the ass. I wish i could've done more but next time i should research people like them, save myself from another backstabbing before it happens. Thank you though, i will make sure i'm more careful ^^

Looking into it, If kofi doesn't care what the money is for i can use that for sure, i'll need a way to get a debit card of sorts to work with things so i can still go out and buy stuff. I have a cashapp card so i could try that out.

If I can throw another suggestion in the ring, another artist on this site when Paypal was threatened to be removed from their country, they were able to take commissions through Buy Me a Coffee. https://www.buymeacoffee.com/

Another idea is to accept crypto payments. A bit more hassle, but quicker and less fees then PP.

Careful. Cryptocurrencies are extremely volatile. Bitcoin recently crashed from $60k down to around $20k, and that's likely to change long after this comment's edit window expires. It wouldn't be a suitable option of passive income or commissions.

You have stablecoins like USDT which are always worth one dollar :) A warning is nice of course, but Bitcoin is more of a long-term value storage while trade is conducted in other cryptos which are more suited for such an exchange. A good example is Russia as well as other countries now accepting trans-border trades with cryptos. Mind you I'm highly pro-crypto though as it has helped me not starve to death many a time :)

Other than what people said above, I've seen some artists use https://www.wise.com and I've used it before personally.

Should probably do the same thing 2 him & say that he is drawing UA stuff as well.

Or do something 2 get him back.

I've had such "friends" though they think and call themselves "friends" however they are only acquaintances that use you for their own benefit. Have had artists too who have cheated me as you know and some of which were "friends" so it is never an easy thing to get over since it screws with your client/artist relations and trust.

True, though I have noticed a troubling trend over the years (thanks in part to anthropology and psychology training) about just the general social interactions of late and new ideals of what friends mean to younger people these days.

No they are bitter and dont like one thing i do so they are using it to try and screw us over.

...fortunately, I just acquired an amphibious axolotl boy from Fuf, and now seems as good a time as any to put him into an underwater predicament or two.  Let me pull some ideas together, and I'll PM you. :-)

My username is only used here. I thought about giving the same namehandle to my Pixiv but IDK if I should use a different username. Basically it'd be the same content like I make on here.

So by PMs, I guess you mean communications on, say, here or Pixiv?

Someone suggested making a Ko-Fi account as a way to discreetly pay.
