Friend Torian

Due to my shy nature and various social problems, I've had trouble making friends ever since middle school. I've had few IRL friends. One of these has been a guy named Torian. I met him at the community college I attended for a while here. We bonded over the fact he did a damn good Yoda impression, and, as it turned out, we rode the same JCATS van. We got to talking some more and eventually became friends. He even started coming over to my house and we went to the movies and the mall together and, y'know, friend type stuff. However as my psychological conditioned worsened, so did my already questionable social skills. He started becoming more my sister's friend than anything else, and, eventually, he quit coming to my house.

That was a few years ago. The last I'd heard of him since then was that he briefly roomed with my sister and her (now ex) husband. Then he moved out not long before she and her husband divorced. I hadn't heard from or about him since then until last week. I was on the phone with my father, when suddenly I heard someone knocking on the front door. I looked out the window and saw a Honda in our driveway. Not knowing anyone who drove a Honda, I decided it was someone selling something and decided to ignore them until they went away, and told my dad as much. But then there was a banging on my window. I looked out again and there, suddenly, was Torian!

I told my had I had to go real quick and went and let him in and was thoroughly amazed and surprised to see him. He explained that he'd recently gotten caught up with my sister, and I'd come up in their conversation, and so he'd decided to swing by and say hi. We spent about an hour or so just talking and getting caught up before deciding to watch Road House and give it the MST3k treatment. He had to go before the finale, though, but promised to see me again soon. That Sunday, my mom, my sister and her boyfriend Jamie went to the movies, and to my delight, Torian went with us. My mom and sister saw Magic Mike (whatever that is) while me, Torian and Jamie saw The Amazing Spider-Man. It was fun seeing a movie that I turned out liking with my old friend.

Then we all went back to the house and caught the latest episode of True Blood. I was a little miffed when Torian had to leave, because we hadn't finished Road House, but he promised to return the following day. He kept his promise, and we gave the final ten minutes of Road House the lampooning it so richly deserved (it's one of those "so bad it's good" type 80's action movies). Since then, he's been back over to also watch the comedy Young Doctors in Love with me, and, in general, we've been becoming good friends again, I think, so I'm very glad for that. Torian has a tendency to be sarcastic and acerbic and to rib me a bit too much for my liking, but, overall, is a decent enough guy, and right now I definitely need a friend IRL so his coming back into my life, even if it's just for a little while, is a godsend.
