Sonic Plot Confusion

As I was trying to think of à logical timeline for why Sonic and Friends are drastically different sense Sonic Riders going forward I got confused of a certain element.
How come Sonic and Tails don't remember the Zones in Generations, did the plot of 06 effect the time reset that badly?

I believe Sega considers Classic Sonic and friends different characters from Modern Sonic and friends. It's why they don't really include Mighty in the newer stuff; He's considered part of Classic Sonic's group.

It is a shame cause at one point classic and modern sonic where the same sonic, Adventure is a time extended sequal to 3K, it is a lot more obvious looking at it from the Dreamcast version.

Also Mighty not being one of Sonic's buds in the modern era is cause he and ray where only in a arcade cabinet for a really long time and has not got any character development for pretty much ever.
The Story as to how they where made is probably a clean up of Sega's canceled Sonic brothers.
